I canceled my membership relatively quickly, pun intended. As others have stated, there are quite a few free sites out there with just as much, if not more info. The other sites may not be as polished looking but their information seemed more accessible, detailed and up to date... without the high cost. A free trial is worth the effort but I would not recommend a full cost membership unless you are into wasting money.

Ancestry.com provides access to more database information than any other genealogy search site, being the largest genealogy website in the world. Roughly 9 million names and 25000 families are added to the database each week. Ancestry.com contains more than 3 billion names.

The database is updated on daily basis. It has got various fee structures of joining. It also offers 14 day Trial to access all the available collections.

The site also offers display up to 9 generations of your family tree in a poster suitable for framing for an additional $19.95. It also provides for message boards for public postings from members of the community about research localities and surnames. It also offers community area where you can share research or ideas with other Ancestry members or contact those members with research interests similar to yours.

Joining is the simplest of all. You can join just by providing your first name, last name and email.

I visited this site on the recommendation of my mom of all people (she is not very computer/internet savvy). She and I had been talking about our family history and how we are of French/English ancestry when she mentioned this site. I went to it after getting off the phone and thought it was great. I did not join but just clicked around to learn what all they have to offer in case I want to try their free trial in the future (they offer a 2 week trial for free). You can make your own family tree for free, which is really cool. You can search for people for free but have to be a member to get any detailed information. All in all, I think that this site is really awesome. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to find out about themselves. I think if I decide to do this, it will definitely be worth the money with the resources they offer.
