I visited this site on the recommendation of my mom of all people (she is not very computer/internet savvy). She and I had been talking about our family history and how we are of French/English ancestry when she mentioned this site. I went to it after getting off the phone and thought it was great. I did not join but just clicked around to learn what all they have to offer in case I want to try their free trial in the future (they offer a 2 week trial for free). You can make your own family tree for free, which is really cool. You can search for people for free but have to be a member to get any detailed information. All in all, I think that this site is really awesome. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to find out about themselves. I think if I decide to do this, it will definitely be worth the money with the resources they offer.

I had a subscription to Ancestry for two years and used it often during much of that time.  Ancestry is a good site overall.  There is quite a lot of information available, and it is usually easy to locate.  The problem is that the service is very expensive, and I found that Ancestry only made up about 20% of my actual data collection.  The many, many free sites available are much more helpful, particularly through familysearch.org and the USgenweb project.  Nearly all of my information was found there- not through Ancestry.  If there are some specific things you are looking for, you can probably gather all the information you need during their free trial.
