Sporting goods retailers are certainly not few and far between on the Internet nowadays. The question is, where can you get a variety of sporting goods at prices that don't hurt your pocketbook? In our search to find the best sporting goods sites on the Web the Star Reviews team came across BassProShops.com, the Internet version of the ever-popular Bass Pro Shops. Can their website hold a candle to the brick-and-mortar legacy? Here's what we found out...

Our Favorite Feature:

Our favorite feature of Bass Pro Shops was certainly the free resource library. While this really had nothing to do with purchasing sporting goods, we did find it to be an exceptional addition to their site. Customers are offered near-endless fishing and hunting-related resources, such as screen savers, wall paper, e-post cards, videos, and more. It's a great way to attract customers to the site, and really makes for a positive experience when visiting.

The BassPro.com Experience:

BassPro.com offers a full and extensive product line pertaining to fishing, hunting, and camping. While the supply is somewhat limited to those specific areas, the site does keep well-stocked in their supply. Fisherman, campers, and hunters can truly find anything they’re looking for in regards to their respective sports.

The website itself is a bit cluttered, especially on the home page. Flaky advertisements for other companies seem to detract from the sales aspect of the site, as does the way they advertise their library. Once entering the site, you are immediately bombarded by jumbled material, portraying a bit of a "messy" look and feel.

That being said, the library was definitely a neat feature of the BassPro.com site, and could be construed as what makes the site unique when compared to other sporting goods retailers. We really liked the idea that we could find both educational and fun material pertaining to all of the sports the company offers products for, and truly found this to be a unique approach to the traditional Internet library.

Another thing we really liked about BassPro.com was that they also offer a rewards point program. You get points for each purchase made and get store certificates once a certain number of points have been earned. It's definitely a plus if you plan on doing any serious shopping on the site.
