Our favorite Feature:

We really liked this site's Tips & Tools section. It provides excellent instruction on how to write a press release, a feature story and SEO copy. If you're a bit of a do-it-yourselfer and want to take this approach to your online business presence, but don't know where to start, this is the place to be.

The Business Wire Experience:

Business Wire is a press release distribution company that was founded in 1961 by a journalist and public relations professional. Its Internet site offers access to affordable press release services from the comfort of your office or home. The company originates hundreds of thousands of announcements each year, with a multi-channel delivery network for targeted results.

We found the BusinessWire.com website to be professionally designed and easy to navigate. We were able to search through the site's options using the clearly-labeled portals, including PR Services, IR Services and Media Services.

The site's pages loaded quickly and we found it very easy to create a press release and distribute it through the Business Wire site. Unlike many of the competitor sites, we were happy to see that Business Wire offered assistance and provided instruction on how to formulate a successful press release. Once the release was created, we were able to choose from 200 industry categories and thousands of online outlets for distribution of the release.

If targeted press releases are what you're looking for, Business Wire has it. You can target demographics such as LatinoWire or African-American and Asian-American audiences or reach journalists, financial analysts, activities, investors, academics, government and more.

Members of Business Wire have access to a tool that will help you create a business profile. You can include a company logo and photos of your company's executives. This profile is then linked within each press release you distribute.

It's important to note that Business Wire membership is subject to approval and requires an application process. The form must be downloaded, printed, filled out and faxed. We could not find any mention of cost but the form required a credit card so we’re assuming there is one.

Business Wire Pricing:

Business Wire pricing is somewhat of a mystery. Registering on the site is free, but there is a membership application that requests credit card information and we were unable to locate any details on how much this membership would cost. We'd really liked to have seen some up-front pricing somewhere on the site, but this was one feature that Business Wire did not offer.

Business Wire Customer Service:

There are Business Wire bureaus throughout the United States, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Telephone, fax and address information for each bureau is provided. An email link for comments and suggestions is also provided. We found phone support to be very helpful and email support was prompt and efficient too. After speaking with a rep we came to the conclusion that Business Wire is probably a better service for mid to large-sized companies than it is for small or home-based businesses.

Upside:

Broad media distribution for press releases, trustworthy venue for company financial information disclosure.

Downside:

No up-front pricing available.
