Fortunately there are online textbook stores that provide a variety of textbooks and can fit into any budget. Star reviews has taken on the task of searching online textbook stores for not only the best deals but also which bookstores have the most to offer. One bookstore we decided to take a look at is Buy.com. Here’s what we found…

Our favorite feature of Buy.com is that one can search for a textbook by title, by author or by ISBN number. An ISBN is a unique number found on the back of every textbook. This feature can definitely save much time and effort spent searching for a specific textbook.

About Buy.com:

Buy.com is not just a bookstore to buy textbooks online. They sell everything from apparel to electronics to toys. Buy.com offers 10% off over 900,000 book titles through their affiliate website Amazon.com. Buyers can choose from top sellers, hot new releases and from the most popular selections. You can be the first to purchase new releases by reserving your copy with the pre-order option. Buy.com has a section called “Ask The Experts” where online shoppers can get advice on products.

Selection:

Buy.com has a selection of over 900,000 textbook titles to choose from for online shoppers to buy textbooks online.

Price Comparison Results:

While comparing textbook stores, we found that Buy.com was more expensive due to the fact that the books are new and unused.

Selling Your Books:

Many online bookstores offer you the option of selling your used textbooks directly to their website or they may give you the option of marketing them to other students. Unfortunately Buy.com does not offer the option of selling your used textbooks on their website.

Return Policy:

Unless otherwise stated, you have 14 days from the date the book left the warehouse to get a valid RMA (return merchandise authorization) and get the book returned to the Buy.com website. Only one RMA is assigned to each return so if the RMA number is lost, the book cannot be returned. There is a 15% restocking fee if the packaging has been opened unless the book proves to be defective in some way. Defective books can only be exchanged for the same book title.

Customer Support:

Customer support for Buy.com is available through the “Help” tab located on the home page of the website. There you can find assistance with order status, account issues, shipping and delivery, pricing and billing, rebates, a buyer’s guide, returns, how to enable or delete cookies, gift certificates, warranties, marketplace and security. Buy.com customer service can be contacted via email only. There was no contact number located on the website.

Upside:

Buy.com has a large selection for online shoppers who want to buy textbooks online.

Downside:

Buy.com’s website is very busy and difficult to navigate and there is no contact number for customer service found on the website.
