Our Favorite Feature:

We really liked the fact that CBS News offered local news information. Many of the other sites we visited focused on U.S. and world news, but left local news on the back burner. It was nice to see that CBS offered a section dedicated to local news offerings.

The CBS News Experience:

The CBS News website was user-friendly and easy to navigate. From top world headlines to local interest stories, the site had it all and it organized it in a way that the wealth of information was not at all intimidating.

We really liked the site's local news section. Many of today's Internet websites don't offer local news information. CBS News offered quite a few local stories, allowing us to enter our zip code and get the information we wanted without having to register or provide personal information.

One thing we did notice was that the site's "Entertainment" section seemed to sneak in shameless promotion of a few CBS shows, trying to pass it off as a news feature. That being said, the shows mentioned are definitely popular (such as the Gossip Girl hit) and something that fans would want to read about anyway, so we weren't too turned off by it.

While you'll get a good dose of journalistic news coverage at the site, it's apparent that entertainment is also at the core of CBS's approach to their Internet website. In addition to local, national and world news articles CBS News also provides live simulcasts of their evening news, iPod downloads of 60 Minutes segments, interactive polls, 48 Hours mystery features and more.

It seemed the site did have a CBS programming theme, but it's not surprising since many of the station's shows are news related. If your a fan of CBS, their news website is probably going to be your preferred source of online news information.

CBS News Customer Service:

Unfortunately, CBS News didn't offer much in the way of customer support. There is a brief FAQ section, but not much else. You can email the company using their "contact" form, but they say up front that they can't respond to every email they receive and, unfortunately, we never received a response to ours.

Upside:

Great news features, user-friendly site, live simulcasts.

Downside:

Lack of support.
