I've been using dafont.com since college.  I download a bunch of them all the time for birthdays, holiday greeting cards, resumes, etc... I like that they update them almost every day and the fact that they are free makes it even better!!! I used them particularly with backgrounds I make for my computer, as many programs don't come with really cool fonts.  For photoshop and word, they work great although I haven't tried to use them in any other programs.  Sometimes I have to download and then re-download for some reason, but it seems to work the second time and I've never had any issues with trying to install them properly because the site gives really easy directions.
