Have you ever been the victim of a computer crash? All of your precious files, pictures, and other documents lost in computer heaven. With the advances in modern technology, one of the newest crazes are the use of online data storage websites. These sites allow you to keep a back up copy of your hard drive at a secure remote location. The problem is, with so many to choose from, which one should you go with? When the Star Reviews team started surfing the web in hopes of backing up our files, one of the sites we checked out was FileDen.com. The following is a review of what you can expect from this company...

Our Favorite Feature:

Our Reviews team, without a doubt, decided that our favorite feature of the site was the capability to share, rename, link, and zip files directly through their website. The share feature especially opens up the opportunity to send your files to friends completely e-mail-free. Consequently, this avoids you having to download the file, save it to your hard drive, attach to an e-mail… well, you get the idea!

The FileDen Experience:

FileDen.com has a variety of plans available, each tailored to your specific needs. While we found that the only real difference separating the paid accounts were storage space and bandwidth (and of course price), they also offer a ‘free’ account as well. The free account is very basic, providing only 1 GB of storage, and limited options. The main issue with it, however, was that the site states that they do not provide secure encrypted uploading for the free account. This seems to be an issue to us, simply because we really couldn’t find any definitive directions as to how one uploads their files on the free account. However, we can’t complain too much, considering it doesn't cost a dime.

The site itself, we have to say, was extremely cluttered. We’re not sure how FileDen.com is going to sell their service with as many competitors’ advertisements that they have running – especially on their homepage. The homepage also gives off the impression that the service is very complicated and confusing thanks to all the small text.

When we went through the registration process we found it to be average as far as user-friendliness goes. There are several questions to answer (i.e. birth date, phone number, etc.), although we found that this is only to maintain your security should you forget or misplace your password. That being said, we liked the idea, and found it worth the extra time to fill out the form. After submitting that information, we were redirected to Paypal’s website to complete payment, thus enabling users to pay securely without giving their credit card information.

We found the storage capabilities of FileDen.com to be average in relation to the other websites we’ve reviewed. Pricing was also similar, with the cheapest plan offering 5 GB of space for only $4.95 per month. We also liked the fact that the company practically gives you two free months when you pay for service for an entire year. For the peace of mind of knowing that your precious files are being protected, we certainly think the pricing is reasonable.

The features of FileDen.com were definitely above par. Users have the ability to share files online, link them to a website, securely upload them, etc. We also liked the ability to create online photo albums, as we all know how much storage space that pictures take up. For the price you pay, FileDen definitely offers some quality features found on the more-expensive sites.

‘Diamond Account’ with 15 GB of storage space: $19.95 per month, or $199.95 per year.

Books Free’s Customer Service:

We found FileDen.com's customer service to be somewhat limited. The only real way to summon professional help is to do so via the e-mail form that is provided. The site does not offer any type of ‘live chat’, or phone number features. The upside to their service is that the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page was nothing short of impressive. The amount of information that is provided in detail on this page makes up for lack of ‘real’ communication options, although we'd really liked to have seen a live support option.

Upside:

Manage files remotely, competitive pricing, variety of tools and features.

Downside:

Cluttered and website and limited customer service options.
