Our Favorite Feature:

We really liked the fact that FontShop can create a custom font for you, and can even base it off your handwriting. Want to type just like you write? This is the place to go. Just download and print the HandFont order form, return the forms by mail (with payment of $249) and you'll get your font files sent back to you in 2 to 4 weeks.

The FontShop.com Experience:

We definitely feel that FontShop.com was one of the more professional font websites we came across. They offered thousands of different fonts and a myriad of font services including HandType (custom handwriting) fonts, font research, corporate font licensing and font file conversion.

We were given the option of finding fonts by foundry (designer), keyword search, category search or by using the "search by sight" navigator. Our advice? Browse the categories or do a keyword search. The navigator was nothing but a frustrating headache. We tried multiple searches using different options and the darn thing never returned a single result.

The site did momentarily fall back into our good graces when we saw a page devoted exclusively to free fonts. Considering this is a site geared towards businesses and most of the fonts are priced rather high, we were surprised to see a free fonts page. That surprise turned into annoyance, however, when we visited the page and only saw two free fonts available (and one of the two was a wing ding type font).

If you're looking for custom font services or quality fonts for business use, this is definitely the place to be. If, however, you're looking for budget-friendly fonts to use at home, you'd be better off at one of the other font download websites.

FontShop.com Pricing:

Well, the site did offer two free fonts so let's give them credit for that before we send you into sticker shock... First, understand these fonts are marketed towards businesses and not individuals. That being said, expect to pay at least thirty to forty dollars to download a font from this site. Most were at least $100 and some even cost more than $1,000.

FontShop.com Customer Service:

One thing FontShop.com does have going for it is its excellent customer support. You can reach the company via email or phone. Email support got back to us the very same day we sent in our question and phone support offered fast and friendly answers with no hold time or hassles. It was definitely a great customer service experience.

Upside:

HandType font available, corporate font packages, font research and identification services.

Downside:

A bit pricey.
