It's not like you wake up in the morning saying, "Gee, wouldn't it be fun to compare auto insurance quotes today?" Finding the best auto insurance quotes can be a daunting and time-consuming task, to say the least. On the list of frustrating things to do, it's right there beneath playing with the friendly used car salesmen. When the Star team set out to arm you with helpful auto insurance reviews, we couldn't forget the gecko. You know – the GEICO gecko? Well, whether or not you know what gecko we're talking about, this is what we found out about the GEICO website...
What’s New?
- GEICO now has mobile access that can be utilized with a web-enabled cell phone.
- Online Claim Reporting allows users to submit claims from their computer.
- Manage your entire account from the Web, including payments, address changes and policy changes.
Star Reviews' Favorite Feature:
The team here at Star Reviews really liked the fact that we could access important information from the GEICO website by using our mobile phones. This feature can come in handy if you are ever in an accident. After all, contact information and assistance on the road as well as mobile claim submission can be rather beneficial during a time of crisis.
About GEICO:
Starting in 1936 Government Employees Insurance Company (aka GEICO) began targeting and offering insurance to government employees and the top 3 grades of military personnel. Since then GEICO has seen many seasons of change, including the good and the bad. However, this seems to only have strengthened the company and made it what it is today. GEICO currently offers insurance services worldwide to millions of policyholders across the globe.
What GEICO Offers:
- Automobile Insurance
- Manage My Auto Policy online
- Auto Insurance Claims Tracking
- Overseas Auto Insurance
- State auto insurance information
The GEICO Experience:
When we visited the GEICO website, we found it to be simplistic, bright and inviting. The overall interface is quite aesthetically-pleasing and functions smoothly and quickly. Isn't it nice when a website works like it's supposed to and doesn't make you wait forever and a day as pages load?
Everything on the GEICO website is well-categorized and easy to navigate. Overall, it's a minimalist presentation and that is how we like it – straightforward and to the point. We also appreciated the fact that this site offers more than just quotes. The Star team was happy to find links to other important information, such as state insurance requirements and automobile safety tips. If you're not familiar with your state insurance requirements, we highly suggest checking out these links.
In regards to online quotes – GEICOoffers them instantly. It's nice to see that you can fill out a form and get your quote online – not a message saying an agent will be contacting you shortly (interpret this as "get ready for telemarketing calls"). It took us less than five minutes to fill out the entire auto insurance application. The only problem we had with GEICO was that they want your social security number when you request a quote. If you opt not to give them that information, the quote you receive may not actually be the premium you'll pay should you decide to take the policy (in which case you will have no choice but to provide them with the information.)
The only other thing that we didn't like about GEICO was the fact that we were not able to view comparable insurance rates from other companies. Price can be key in determining the best auto insurance policy for you. Without this feature, we were left to wonder if the deal that we were quoted was really the best one out there.
GEICO Pricing:
When the Star team researched the different insurance quote providers for our auto insurance reviews, we pulled online quotes from each of the websites we visited using an “apples to apples” comparison approach. This is how GEICO measured up:

GEICO Customer Support:
GEICO offers customer service via phone and email. We submitted an email and received a quick and to-the-point answer the next business day. Phone service also proved to be helpful. When we called GEICO customer support questioning whether or not we'd have to give out our social, they kindly informed us that we could leave this information blank just to receive a quote, but if we did indeed want a policy we would need to provide that information. We were also happy to see a wealth of information in the FAQs section. The details provided cover nearly any topic you might have regarding online auto insurance quotes and information.
Upside:
Instant online quotes, access to the site using a mobile phone or similar device, wide variety of insurance plans and services.
Downside:
The site requests more information than initially needed to provide a basic quote, such as a social security number and occupation.
