All consumers know that competition is healthy and GameZnFlix is one of the companies bringing competition to this market. When the Star Reviews team decided to research online DVD rental services to see who was the cream of the crop, GameZnFlix was one of the companies we were itching to find out about. Wondering how the little guy measures up to the big dogs? Here's what we found out...
What's New?
- Movies Available on DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray
- Pre-Pay For 3 Months and Get A $25 Shell Gift Card (at the time of our review)
- Free 14-Day Trial
Star Reviews' Favorite Feature:
We like the fact that GameZnFlix offers a free 14-day trial. This allows you to see if the service offers what you're looking for without having to part with your hard-earned cash ahead of time. You do need to provide your credit card info to access the trial, but that's not out of sync with what the other online DVD rental companies require.
The GameZnFlix Experience:
We felt that GameZnFlix was more of a game rental website service than a movie rental site. The name should have been our first clue. The fact that the site's landing page has a boatload of games and not a single movie listed on it should have been our second.
Once you do a bit of navigating you find out that the site does offer DVDs, HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray movies for rent. You just have to click on the tabs taking you to those sections of the site in order to see what's offered – and it doesn't seem like much. Don't expect tens of thousands of titles like the selection offered by the big-name competitors - we saw fewer than 20,000 ready to ship DVDs when we visited the site.
The website navigation isn't the best either, and certainly not intuitive. Unfortunately, the new releases and ready-to-ship titles weren't viewable by genre, category or any other filter that would make sense to us. We'd really have liked to see a much bigger selection, an easier-to-navigate site and a more intuitive layout.
GameZnFlix Features:
It's as basic as basic gets. You select your subscription plan and browse a limited selection of available DVD titles, and from there make your rental selections.
GameZnFlix Pricing (Per Month):
- 1 DVD out at a time - $8.99
- 2 DVDs out at a time - $12.99
- 3 DVDs out at a time - $16.99
GameZnFlix Customer Service:
GameZnFlix does offer customer service via toll-free phone, which was a nice surprise considering the fact that they seemed like a small operation from the feel of the site. Unfortunately, we found the hold time to be quite a long wait and the rep couldn't give us a definitive answer to the question we asked. They also offer support through an online help request form. We received a response within one business day, so we couldn't complain about that. If you don't like long hold times, email support is probably your best bet.
Upside:
Competitive pricing, movies and games available with same subscription.
Downside:
Cumbersome website and limited selection.
