Looking for a home isn't always an easy task. You can drive from street to street hoping to come across a house you like. You can turn to a real estate agent and hope they intuitively know which homes to show you. Of course, you can also turn to the Internet and conduct your own search, making arrangements to see only the homes that meet your specific criteria. The key is finding a site that offers a wide selection of listings that are easy to find and easy to filter. Homescape.com is one of the sites Star Reviews researched when looking into the best real estate websites on the Internet. Here's what we found out...

Our Favorite Feature:

We have to say, Homescape's Local Market Snapshots feature really impressed us. By selecting your city and state you can get valuable information on how the real estate market is doing in your area. You can find out how much the average home sold for, what the annual turnover rate is, how many homes are owned, how many are rented and how many are vacation homes. You can also get information on schools, grocery stores, child care centers and other local services. It's definitely a valuable tool to look at any area you're interested in buying in.

The Homescape.com Experience:

At first glance Homescape.com looks like most of the other real estate websites on the Internet. You enter your home search criteria and get a list of matching homes in return. That, however, is where many of the similarities end.

In addition to offering millions of listings of homes for sale, Homescape.com also offers valuable research tools and helpful buyer and seller information. And speaking of sellers, you can use Homescape.com to sell your house if you really don't feel like listing it with a real estate agent. While this may require more work on your part, it can save you thousands of dollars (even tens of thousands of dollars) in the long run. We just hope the seller's pages work better for you than they did for us. We couldn't get the pages to load either of the days we tried.

We really liked Homescape's local market snapshot. Not only can it give you an idea of how well the market is doing in a specific area, it can also point you in the direction of local businesses and services. Need to get school information? This is the place to go. Want to know where the local childcare centers are? Homescape has the answers.

Homescape may not have been the flashiest or most beautiful site we visited, but it definitely offered quite a few useful features. Beauty is only skin deep after all.

Homescape.com Pricing:

Homescape.com is free to use if you're a buyer. If you're a seller who wants to list their home for sale, there are some fees involved. The problem is, we couldn't get the form for selling to work properly and couldn't access any of the pricing information on both days we tried.

Homescape.com Customer Service:

Homescape can be contacted via an online feedback form, and that's about it. Under the Contact Us link we didn't really find any useful information and we didn't get an answer when we submitted the form either. While the site may offer valuable tools and resources, they definitely need to work on their customer support.

Upside:

Sell your home online, get a local market snapshot, find out the value of your home.

Downside:

Site doesn't work properly and customer support is nonexistent.
