We were quite excited to begin our research of LifeLock's services. There's a lot to be said about a company that has a CEO who is willing to flash his social security number on public television for the world to see. LifeLock definitely didn't disappoint us.
LifeLock offers a truly comprehensive product. While many companies just offer credit alerts and hope for the best, LifeLock actually takes a proactive approach and actually removes your name from mailing lists and places freezes on your credit report.

We also really like the fact that the company offers protection for children as well as adults. It's one of the only companies doing that right now. If you have a family and you want to keep your children's identities as safe as your own, LifeLock is probably your best bet.

 The first thing we noticed about IdentityGuard® is that, unlike most of the other identity theft protection services out there, this company offers program options. While most services try a "one size fits all" approach, IdentityGuard® lets you pick the program that best suits your needs.
IdentityGuard®'s Good StartSM program is great for those who want basic protection at an affordable price. At $4.99 per month, it's one of the most affordable identity theft protection plans you can find. And while it's true that customer service could have been a bit better, it was far from the worst of the bunch.

If you don't mind sacrificing frills for value, this is definitely a great pick. If, on the other hand, you'd rather have more comprehensive coverage, IdentityGuard® is still a great company. You just need to look into their other offerings, such as the Total Protection plan. All in all, Star Reviews was happy with their basic service and we award them 5.0 Stars!

On the surface, TrustedID's product looks like a great choice. With credit locks, credit card monitoring and a $1,000,000 guarantee, what more could you want? After digging a little deeper, however, we realized that TrustedID might not be the company for everyone and that your money might be better spent elsewhere.
First there's the pricing factor. TrustedID charges $12.95 per month. That's only a few dollars more per month than what most of the competition charges, but you're not getting more for the money you're spending.

The $1,000,000 guarantee might also prove to be a problem and it might actually offer a false sense of security. When we contacted the company no one seemed to know exactly what would and would not be covered if we did run into an identity theft problem. Add that to the fact that some of the competitors in the industry offer more comprehensive service and more knowledgeable support (for less money, to boot) and it becomes evident why TrustedID was not our top pick, but we did feel they were worth

We had high hopes for Equifax Credit Watch Gold. You'd think Equifax, being one of the three major credit reporting bureaus, would understand that customer service is key. We were quite disappointed in our encounter and felt the actual product could be improved as well.
Equifax does not offer a comprehensive identity theft protection service. Instead, it offers bare-bones package that includes daily credit monitoring. On the bright side, however, they do include $20,000 of insurance with their service.

While there is definitely room for improvement, Equifax Credit Watch Gold does have its place in the world of identity theft prevention.
