Joi Phone started out as Joi Internet in 1999, offering affordable and easy-to-use ISP services to Internet consumers. Then in 2005, when voice over IP services started to take off, Joi Internet decided to expand its services and created Joi Phone. Their mission is to provide the best VOIP services at the lowest possible prices, and it seems like they're doing quite well.

What Joi Phone Offers:
We really liked the variety in Joi Phone's VOIP offerings. There are three different plans available depending on your specific VOIP needs. All Joi Phone plans include call waiting, caller ID, 911 dialing, call forwarding, dedicated voice mail and unlimited in-network calling. Joi Phone also offers numerous add-on products and services including virtual phone numbers, toll-free phone numbers, voice mail with an auto-attendant, and additional Joi Phone phone lines.

Joi Phone Pricing:

Joi Phone service with unlimited in-network calling and 100 non-network USA minutes is $6.95 per month (when paying for 12 months at a time) or $9.95 per month (when paying month to month). Each additional minute is charged at 2 cents.
Joi Phone Unlimited includes unlimited in-network and out-of-network calling for $14.95 per month (wen paying for 12 months at a time) or $17.95 per month (when paying month to month).
Joi Phone Business includes unlimited in-network and out-of-network calls, a business telephone line for $29.95 per month (when paying for 12 months at a time) or $32.95 per month (when paying month to month).

Add-On Pricing:

Add a virtual phone number to your existing phone line for $1.95 per month.
Add a toll-free number to your service for $2.95 per month.
Add an additional voice mail line with an auto-attendant for $4.95 per month.
Add an additional Joi Phone line for $4.95 per month.
Add an additional Joi Phone unlimited line for $9.95 per month.

The Joi Phone Experience:
Like most of the other top voice over IP services, Joi Phone is very easy to sign up for. Simply select the plan you want and provide the company with your billing information. If you are transferring your phone number rather than having Joi Phone issue you a new one, please understand that it can take some time (up to two months) for your number to "port" over to Joi Phone. However, if you're getting a new number through JoiPhone it should take much less time.

Once your Joi Phone service is set up and ready to go, you simply plug in the adapter they send you. It's basically a plug-and-play installation so even those who are technologically disadvantaged should have no problem following Joi Phone's easy-to-understand directions. You don’t even need a computer to set this VOIP service up, either. All you need is Broadband or DSL connection capabilities.

Customer Support:
While Joi Phone isn't exactly the epitome of excellent customer service, they did do better than many of their counterparts. Yes, we had a long hold time when we called (about 8 minutes) but it could have been worse (as it was when we called some of the other top voice over IP services).

The rep we spoke with was very helpful and addressed our questions with easy-to-comprehend answers. For instance, when we asked about the installation of the Joi Phone adapter, she explained exactly how it's done and how easy it really is, putting our minds at ease and giving us confidence in our ability to install the service ourself.

Because Joi Phone has extended service hours (you can call up till midnight, so no need to call during work hours) Joi Phone makes accessing customer support very convenient. Their online guides and FAQs also prove to be quite helpful and our email inquiry was answered within 48 hours.

Upside:
Good customer service, easy-to-use, great prices

Downside:
You need to pay for a year in full if you want the best rates.

Summary:
Overall, we felt the Joi Phone Voice over IP provider had some great benefits if you feel so inclined to sign up for their service. First of all, they offer some incredible sales and special promotions if you like saving money. There is also a 30-day-money back guarantee, so those of you who like to test run new VOIP services until you're sure you like it, need not worry. There are three different Joi Phone plans, and basic service is $6.95 a month. Joi Phone Unlimited is $14.95 a month, which isn't bad when compared to their competition. All Joi Phone plans include call waiting, caller ID, 911 dialing, call forwarding, dedicated voice mail and unlimited in-network calling. Customer service is good here, as well, although there was an 8-minute wait time when we called. But, all in all, we do recommend their VOIP service.

Joi Phone is one of the most affordable phone service. You can make unlimited calls in US and 9 other countries. With a plan of $8.95 per month or $108 per year, this is arguably the cheapest phone service provider. It allows you to keep your existing phone number. It offers low international calls other than those 9 countries. It offers 40 other features which makes it exceptional. Other features are dedicated voicemail, call forwarding and many more.
