Not the best journal...

My sister used LiveJournal, and so I started using it to correspond with her. It was easy to get started, and it had a simple interface.
I stopped using it exclusively a couple of years ago, because it felt a little too young for me (I'm in my mid-20s). I just felt really isolated on LiveJournal, although I joined many different communties. I still think it was because I was too old, and most ppl in my age group were migrating to Blogger.
I never got the hang of redesigning my personal page. It seemed difficult to do it, and the themes seemed very sparse. I just didn't have much fun there. The only thing that keeps me going back every now and then is the fact that I do have some family who still regularly uses it.

LiveJournal: One of the first and still one of the best.

Personal journals and community tools
4
Livejournal was the first site I used for regular blogging. I was sucked in by the site's basic social networking features: my wife and our mutual friends had been using Livejournal for some time to keep personal journals and also to keep each other up to date on their lives.
In some ways, Livejournal falls between two stools. It doesn't have all of the fancy networking features that Facebook does and it's blog authoring tools are a little more basic than Blogger, but it combines features of the two into something unique. It's great for keeping a personal record of important events. It helps keep connections open to friends who may be far away.
One of the best features is the ability to set up communities of common interests to which members can posts. Having a forum of people posting about your neighborhood or a hobby is a pleasant diversion.
