You want to go to college but you don't have the cash in your bank account? You're not alone. Let's face it -- very few people pay for their education straight up. Star Reviews thought we'd spend the afternoon reviewing some student loans and when we went "undercover" looking for the best ones, NextStudent was one of the lenders we encountered. Here is what we found.

We were very impressed by NextStudent's "Student Loan Advice" tool. By answering a few questions we were provided with a wealth of information and resources pertaining to our specific student finance needs.

About NextStudent:
NextStudent is dedicated to making it as easy as possible for students to get the best student loans. By offering a comprehensive scholarship search engine, information on federal and private student loans and finance advice for parents and students, NextStudent is taking the mystery out of education financing.

The NextStudent Experience:
When we first came to the NextStudent website, it really didn't seem like anything special. The layout was average and there was nothing that "wowed" us right off the bat. However, as the saying goes, you should never judge a book by its cover.

The NextStudent website proved to be an invaluable resource. Not only did we find useful information on the best student loans available, but we were able to compare student loans, look for scholarships with NextStudent's scholarship search engine, get loan advice and even learn about financial aid programs.

One other thing that stood out about the NextStudent experience is that they had a few resources we thought we'd be returnign to the site to visit, such as the student loan blog and student loan articles.

Contrary to our first impression, the NextStudent website proved to offer a wealth of information in an easy-to-follow and well-laid-out format. We will now eat our humble pie.

Loan Terms Available:

Minimum Loan Amount: Varies depending on private vs. federal and graduate vs. undergrad

Maximum Loan Amount: Varies depending on specific loan type.

Repayment Begins: 6 to 12 months after a student graduates, withdraws or attends school less than half time.

NextStudent's Customer Service:
When it comes to NextStudent's customer service, all we have to say is WOW! Fast and responsive would sum it up nicely.

NextStudent offers customer service via toll-free phone and email support. You can also snail mail them, but I don't advise it unless you don't mind waiting on the postal service for your customer service response.

When we contacted NextStudent's customer service number, our call was answered immediately and by a very friendly representative. She was knowledgeable – very knowledgeable – and wasn't afraid to show it. In fact, towards the end of the conversation we were the ones who cut it short.

Email support was also responsive. In fact, they were one of the quickest to get back to us. The answer wasn't as in-depth as the one we received via phone, but the email rep did give us a phone number to contact them at if we had more questions. We didn't think anyone did that anymore.

Upside:
Unbeatable customer service, scholarship search engine, financial aid advice.

Downside:
No FAQ section.

Summary:
We liked what we found on the NextStudent website, and appreciated its simplicity. We weren't incredibly blown away at first glance, but did they know how to pack their site with resources! Not only can you fill out an online student loan application, you can receive financial aid advice and browse through the scholarship search engine. These are resources anyone interested in a student loan could use. Minimum and maximum loan amounts vary according to loan type and whether your school was public or private. Email and telephone customer support was extremely helpful and accomodating, which made us happy. They definitely earn 6.0 Stars!
