Ask anyone who has visited Las Vegas on their first impression when they entered the Sin city, and almost all of them will say “Man, I wouldn’t want to see the energy bill for all those lights!”

Of course, who says online casino says online poker. Pacific Poker, the online poker games site and subpart of 888, has built a solid player base within the last years, thanks to an aggressive advertisements campaign.

So is their marketing message telling the truth? Is this really the best of online poker?

Interface and playability:
We have tried both the Java and the software version, and both engines function well. We were able to play from our Mac laptop and the experience was quite pleasant. The software was extremely quick to download and install, but proved a bit laggy at times.

Our first impression of the online lobby is the simplicity of its layout. Contrary to driving around in illuminated Las Vegas, the online lobby doesn’t provide any extravaganza, as everything is oversimplified. One feature we appreciated is Tony the Toucan, the online animated bird giving online poker tutorials.

Following in its basic graphic model, the online tables don’t give you the ability to use an avatar, so you can concentrate on the game. Many advanced players won’t like the fact that you can’t play on two tables at once, but again, maybe try to dominate the play on one table before playing on two all right?

The security on Pacific Poker appears up there with the industry’s average. Notably Pacific Poker has an alliance with Intersafe Global LTD, which oversees all the credit card transactions on the online poker site.

Playing fees
Like many of Las Vegas’ most popular casinos, Pacific Poker makes the most of its money by charging a rake fee on every online poker games.

The benchmark game of 4 players at a $2 to $4 limit has a maximum fee of $3.50, which is a bit higher than the industry standards. The fees vary depending on the table’s limit and we recommend you visit their rake structure online.

To their credit, Pacific Poker has a competitive bonus plan, as you gain 20% up to a maximum of $100. In other words, you put $500 in your account, the online poker sites add a $100 and you now have $600.

Customer service
Judging from our visits on online poker forums, 888 has been known to offer a poor customer support experience. In our cases the phone support was satisfying; as our call to of Pacific Poker’s toll-free line was answered within 6 minutes of wait.

The e-mail support was also tested, and we received an answer within 24 hours.

Pacific Poker win bonus points by offering a live interactive chat, where our answer was answered within a couple of seconds, and we didn’t even need to subscribe. This feature is one of the best online poker support tools in our reviews so far.

On a not so good note, Pacific Poker’s website is a frustrating experience, from the numerous pop-ups asking me to download the software to the navigation scheme being a bit tricky (The home button is “coincidentally” close to the download).

The jury is still out on Pacific Poker’s chances of being seen as one of the best online poker games sites. They have many areas on which to improve if they want to be taken seriously in the industry.

If you are a novice player, this poker games site has some appeal for you, as you will mostly playing against other beginner players. Their support is one of the best in our online poker reviews, but please, remove those pop-ups from your website, wont you?
