PhotoWorks provides a web service that allows you to utilize online digital photo printing! Now that most of us are using digital cameras to meet our photography needs, several photo printing companies have taken their businesses online, allowing users to store, edit, and print photographs with the click of a mouse. This site also allows you to host personal web pages and participate in forum communities. But how do they stand up to the competition? That's the real question. Here's what we found out...

Star Reviews' Favorite Feature:

The best thing about PhotoWorks is that all of the site's features are free to use. The only time you are charged is when you purchase a product, such as a set of prints, calendar, or frames. The unlimited photo storage can be used by anyone who wants to collect, save, and share their photos – and who doesn't love a freebie every now and then?

The PhotoWorks Experience:

PhotoWorks is a very user-friendly website, and its pages are attractive and easy to load. The homepage is neat and well-organized, featuring seasonal pictures and offers such as Deal of the Week and Holiday Specials. You can access the main features of the site through the tabs at the top, and your personal account settings can be brought up at any time using the Sign In link in the corner. Browsing the site's features doesn't require you to sign up for an account, which we thought was an added bonus.

Signing up with PhotoWorks was just as easy as navigating the rest of the site. We just had to enter our first name, last name, email address and agree to the Terms of Service and we were on our way. This is good news for customers who are wary of entering their credit card information online. To make it even sweeter, we were sent an e-mail with a coupon code for 25 free prints after we completed registration. This quickly put PhotoWorks even further into our good graces.

If you get lost at any point while browsing, there is a Help link in the top right corner that lists a number of frequently asked questions, which are divided by category. For those who need some help finding their way through websites, this will prove to be quite a helping hand. The Help section offers a variety of information including a guide for getting started (a must-read for those new to online photo websites) and a New Member FAQ.

PhotoWorks Customer Service:

There is an extensive list of frequently asked questions located in the Help section of the PhotoWorks website. The section covers a wide range of topics including image uploading, viewing, editing, sharing and ordering online. PhotoWorks also offers toll-free phone support from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific Time Monday through Friday, and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday. Free e-mail support is available 24/7.

Phone support proved to be very helpful. While we did run into a four-minute hold time, the rep we spoke with was very friendly and knowledgeable. Email support was just as effective. We got a response the same business day and the email wasn't only in-depth and informative, it was well-written and easy to understand.

Upside:

One-stop shop for pictures, huge selection of photo gifts, quick and easy sign up.

Downside:

Although use of the site is free, purchasing products can get pricey.
