Nowadays it seems that everyone and their brother has a blog, but professional bloggers may not find what they’re looking for in many blog services. While many of the big name blog sites on the Web are indeed geared towards personal users, there are a few that cater to the needs of professional users too. TypePad is one of them. When we first landed on their site, we liked how clean and polished it appeared, definitely drawing us in. Find out what we discovered below.

Star Reviews' Favorite Feature:

TypePad was one of the few blog services that have integrated Adsense and Amazon functionality, making it easy to earn money with your TypePad blog. We really liked the fact that it was easy to use the TypePad widgets to implement Google Adsense ads, Amazon affiliate links and other income-generating tools.

About TypePad:

Unlike many of the other blog services, which cater to the personal blog publisher, TypePad works to meet the needs of professional bloggers. By offering TypePad widgets, template builders, video blogs, podcasts and other advanced tools, TypePad is able to cater to professional bloggers who are serious about taking advantage of everything the Web has to offer.

TypePad's Pricing:

TypePad offers a wide variety of account levels, all with various price points. TypePad accounts start at $4.95 a month and go up from there, with custom pricing available for business class accounts. The pricing plans are as follows:

Basic Level: $4.95 a month and includes one blog for one author.
Plus Level: $8.95 per month and includes three blogs for one author.
Pro Level: $14.95 per month and includes unlimited blogs for multiple authors.
Premium Level: $29.95 per month and includes unlimited blogs for multiple authors as well as increased storage and bandwidth allowances.
Business Class plans can be customized to meet the needs of individual businesses and pricing is tailored to the specific needs of the account.

The TypePad Experience:

TypePad really impressed us from the get go. While the features and functions of a TypePad account are quite advanced, the TypePad interface makes using them very easy. An extreme novice might run into a bit of trouble managing a TypePad blog, but the average blogger should find TypePad very user-friendly and accommodating.

We signed up with TypePad using their free 14-day trial account, however, we were still required to provide the company with credit card number prior to gaining access. After providing TypePad with our credit card, we were taken to a page that allowed us to choose the layout and theme we wanted for our blog site. We were also given the option of keeping our blog private, publicizing it or password protecting it – options that weren't provided by many of the other top blog services.

After we selected our blog layout and other options, we were taken to the actual TypePad interface. Star Reviews found it to be very well-organized and we had no problem accessing the features and functions of our new blog. Even though TypePad is for professionals, we found the control panel to be more user-friendly than those of some of the personal blog services we encountered.

TypePad Customer Support:

TypePad is one of the few blog services to offer access to a customer support rep. You can reach TypePad customer service via an email submission form, although they do prefer users check their extensive online knowledge base prior to submitting a support request.

If you can't find the information you're looking for in TypePad's knowledge base, you can fill out a support request. When you fill out your support request, you'll be presented with a list of possible answers to your questions. If none of those answers apply, or if they don't address your question thoroughly, you can continue your request submission. At that point, it will take about a day or two for a support rep to get back to you.

Upside:

Easy to use, professional tools and features, automated Google and Technorati submissions.

Downside:

Higher prices than some of the other blog services.

Great Service and wonderful designs

I recently was looking into services for my blog needs, and stumble upon typepad as I noticed some of the interesting features that this site has. Typepad offers simple designs and great features that make your blog unique and different then the others. I recommend this site to all of my collegues and friends and continue to use this service for all my blogging needs.

I've heard a lot of hoopla about TypePad over my years on the internet. I checked it out, but I was turned off because it charges a fee to use the service. The start off charing $5 a month, for the basic service. I don't know why anyone would choose this service over WordPress or Blogger. In fact, I could create my own website (not just a blog) and have it hosted at that price. In my opinion, TypePad does absolutely nothing extraordinarily, and I'll take my chances with a free site like Blogger that I can monetize with Adsense. Or, for a more professional site, I'd choose the still-free WordPress.org.

Why Pay

Typepad is okay but why pay for a blogging service? Use Blogster or Blogger ... either are free.
