I have been playing fantasy sports for the last 5 years. I am a big football and basketball fan, and yahoo offers fantasy football and basketball. I like to have multiple teams during each season. Yahoo seems to be a bit behind the curve when it comes to fantasy sports. With other sites, the stats are updated as they happen, whereas, yahoo doesn't post stats to the leagues until the next day unless you buy their stat tracker program. Also their draft applications are far less user friendly than competing sites. All in all Yahoo fantasy sports is a good place to start, but if you are somewhat of an advanced player, you would be better off going somewhere else.

Football season is in full swing, and we took a break during half time to take a look at some great fantasy sports websites. Fantasy football involves selecting players from different teams to make up your own team in your fantasy sports league. It’s your greatest fantasy fulfilled. One site we “fumbled” upon was Yahoo! Sports. For those of you who flee the room when the game is on, you’ll want so hang around to see what we discovered here below.

What's New?

More user-friendly features added to make it easier to create your roster.
Ability to assign a co-manager and provide them with either full or restricted access.
Custom league URLs that can be reused year after year.

Star Reviews' Favorite Feature:

Every fantasy sports fan has a unique perspective on the live season, tough games, and coaching staff. We really liked the fact that Yahoo! Fantasy Sports offers an Expert Analysis section that provides wonderful insight and predictions about upcoming games and choices the coaches made.

Navigating the Fantasy on Yahoo! Sports Website:

If you have a Mac, keep this in mind: The sign-up for Fantasy Sports on Yahoo! did not work correctly in our version of Safari on a MacBook. However, once we switched over to Internet Explorer on our desktop computer, registration was relatively painless.

Navigation on both Safari and Internet Explorer was pretty easy, overall. One specific page had links to all of the available fantasy game offerings. The homepage had easy-to-spot yellow buttons which let you join fantasy leagues that are currently available.

The Fantasy on Yahoo! Sports Experience:

No matter what sport you choose, whether you customize your settings or use the default league setup, you’ll likely be satisfied with your Fantasy on Yahoo! Sports Experience. It only took us a few minutes to set up our fantasy hockey league, and the fact that it was free made it even better.

Sports fans who always daydreamed about what it’d be like to have all their favorite players on one team can now see what it’d be like with games such as Salary Cap Football. You can even get up-to-date information and scores on your My Yahoo! account profile.

We also liked the “rumors” section of the different sports pages. Sure, it's technically not an interactive fantasy sports feature, but it does give you some great insight into what's going on in the league. You can also tune in each Sunday to Fantasy Football Live, a podcast with up-to-date player and team news. We liked that Yahoo! Sports kept things simple while still offering a bunch of cool features.

Basic signup with Fantasy on Yahoo! Sports is free. Premium add-on features are priced as follows.

StatTracker: $9.99: This add-on allows you real-time access to minute-by-minute updates from every arena around the league. It gives you updated numbers for each individual player and team in your league when games are being played.
Draft Kit: $9.99: The Draft Kit gives you access to player rankings, news, analysis, injury updates and more so you can create the best team possible on draft day.
StatTracker and Draft Kit Combo: $14.99: Get both the StatTracker and Draft Kit for a reduced price.

Fantasy on Yahoo! Sports Customer Support:

Fantasy on Yahoo! Sports offers an extensive online FAQ section aimed at helping users resolve problems or concerns they may have. We did eventually find a submission form for participants to report scoring disputes. This submission form contained a drop-down menu with many categories that customers might need help with. While the contact info could have been more visibly displayed (we had to dig through what looked like a pileup of players on a 1-yard fumble), we were cheering just like we’d received VIP seating to the Super Bowl when we received a personalized reply within two hours. Way to go, Yahoo!

Upside:

Free basic registration, caters to the ultra-competitive with special services such as Fantasy Football PLUS, the brand-recognition of Yahoo!

Downside:

You must have a Yahoo! account to sign up.

Summary:

We have to hand it to Yahoo! Their Fantasy on Yahoo! Sports section was really comprehensive, but we never felt like we were burdened with links or useless information: Yahoo! really knows how to keep things simple, yet succinct. Basic membership is free on this site, which we liked, but if you want more access to features like minute-by-minute tracking and updated numbers, you can sign up for StatTracker which is $9.99.

You have to sign up for the fantasy sports page with a Yahoo! ID, which doesn't take very long to sign up for and which many people already have. Typical fantasy sports features are available here, such as expert analysis tools and message boards. They offer a detailed FAQs section if you need any assistance and an online submission form resulted in a response within 2 hours! Impressive.
