Finding supplemental insurance can be quite the tiring endeavor. First you have to find a company that offers it, then you have to compare quotes. When you do sign up you have to pray like mad that the company is as good as they promised to be. To make the process easier, the Star Reviews team decided to tackle supplemental insurance reviews. Aflac, the humorous duck company, was one of the first websites we visited. Here's how they stood up to the Star Reviews challenge...
What's New with Aflac Supplemental Insurance?- No direct cost to small businesses for providing Aflac benefits.
- A portion of company proceeds go to several children’s hospitals throughout the nation.
- Customer accounts can be managed completely online.
Star Reviews' Favorite Aflac Feature: Our favorite feature of the Aflac website was the option to manage your customer account online. Just by entering your registration code, account number, billing ZIP, and IVR PIN number, you can manage your insurance benefits, make online payments, and update your account information from the comfort of your own home or office.
The Aflac Experience: The minute we saw the Aflac homepage, we knew we were in for a great shopping experience. The signature Aflac mascot greeted us with its trademark quack and scampered across the length of the screen, effectively entertaining us as well as highlighting the attractive web design and layout. We love the complementary colors and playful fonts featured in the site's design.
Once inside the website, we were very impressed by the wide scope of Aflac’s services. The company offers a wide range of insurance plans for individuals and businesses, as well as resources for policy holders, investors, and brokers. Information about these plans was quite easy to find using Aflac's handy drop-down menus. We also liked Aflac’s philanthropy section, which details its supported charities and causes.
Aflac offers almost every type of insurance policy imaginable, including hospital intensive care, dental, and vision policies, making the company a one-stop shop for all your financial security needs. The quote process took less then five minutes from start to finish and we ran into no problems navigating the user-friendly forms. We were presented with competitive rates in an easy-to-understand format. Overall, our time with Aflac proved to be a very positive experience.

Aflac Pricing: Comparing pricing for standard supplemental insurance is hard because the plans and types of coverage vary from one company to the next. Instead, to get an idea of how competitive a company is in pricing, we decided to get rates based on a standard criteria of a $600,000, 20-year life insurance policy using the same information on each of the supplemental insurance websites we provided. This way we can see how the companies compare in price to one another using an "apples to apples" approach. This is the cost comparison breakdown:

Aflac Customer Service:
Aflac offers toll-free phone support as well as online guides and policy information. We didn't, however, find a comprehensive FAQ or any form of email support whatsoever. While the toll-free phone reps were definitely helpful and efficient, we'd have liked to see more support options to choose from.
Upside:
Entertaining website, large selection of policies, online account management.
Downside:
No help section or list of Frequently Asked Questions to refer to for support.
