It seems as if every month there is some new type of technology coming to the forefront, especially when it comes to cell phone service providers, home phone service, and especially computers. Recently, Google has announced that they will be rolling out a brand new telephone communications program that is something very similar to what Yahoo did previously.
Back in 2007, Google acquired a company called GrandCentral in their efforts to make their company a much broader aspect of people’s lives by adding telephone communications. This service would allow Google customers to choose a phone number from the available list on Google Voice and then when someone calls you at this number, every phone you use would actually ring, be it your cell phone, blackberry, home phone, etc. Google Voice would in turn handle all of the voice messages you receive. There was a previous version that did all of this and also allowed you to listen to your voice mail over the internet, but now the new version will do all of this and a few more significant things such as transcribing your voice mail to text so that you can search through the phone calls using text search methods. The best part of all of this technology is that Google is opting to provide this service for free. They will however, charge for international calls and in the future they may present advertising options as a way of making money off of this service.
This phone service from Google would reduce the amount of phone numbers that you give out to your friends, family, and co-workers. You would need to only give out the one Google Voice phone number. The option of screening all of your calls becomes much easier and since the service emails you the text version of your message, you can scan it to see if it is even important or not to call back the person right away.

Google has acknowledged that they are still in the process of working out some kinks in the system, but that all in all there will not be much of a tussle with your existing phone carriers. They are currently capable of offering VOIP service, but they are not speaking further about whether or not this will be a possibility. Also, people have to be aware that their phone carriers and cell phone carriers, such as Verizon, AT&T, Vodafone, T-Mobile, as well as others, would still need to be paid for their phone services. Google just wants to make your current service even better, you just have to provide the phones and the phone service and they will take care of the rest.
