Political Parties Using Facebook Politics

It seems like everywhere you turn on the internet there is another social networking website taking the internet by storm. Myspace.com paved the way for groups of all sorts to network their identities by using this website. Actors, actresses, musicians, and amateurs abound have found themselves climbing the social ladder faster than ever. The next website to hit the web full force was Facebook.com. This social networking site was created originally with the intent of having college students at Harvard post their names and photos as well socialize with each other. Eventually, it began adding more colleges and today it now has millions of users, from all regions, both students and people using it to network their businesses and jobs.
Because this social networking website has become so popular and is more than just friend-seeking, or dating website like Myspace.com has become, many businesses are opening themselves up to posting and advertising there. Also, many students tend to use the site for advertising their political standpoints and views and political parties have taken notice of this. This same type of social networking could actually work with political campaigning and has been dubbed as “Facebook Politics.” President Barack Obama has recently decided to use what he calls “netroots” to put a sort of pressure on the states that hold the Republican Senate seats that will come into play in 2010 during the midterm elections. By using Facebook Politics, the President can campaign against the opponents of his proposals and then volunteers would promote it to their neighbors, and so forth.

If our President is capable of showing that Facebook Politics can be as strong as the previous years of party politics, then he would be creating a new model for any future presidents to follow suit. This would give President Barack Obama access to a very structured and powerful army of politics and could persuade legislators to support all of his agenda. This will show us just how powerful and strong that netroots could be.
