Bottle Tops Video Review

Bottle Tops

In our house unfinished cans of soda are a fairly regular occurrence.  As anyone who has ever left an opened can of soda in the refrigerator over night knows, the next day carbonation is gone and smells from the fridge have invaded the soda.  I can’t even estimate how much soda I have poured down the drain as a result.  Bottle Tops promises to turn your can into a bottle and keep your soda carbonated and all drinks fresher longer.  We were intrigued enough to order a set and put them to the test.

The offer we took advantage of was a two-for-one.  For $10 plus S&H we received 12 Bottle Tops.  They come in a variety of colors and are dishwasher safe.  Since they are washable and reusable, 12 is good amount to ensure you never are without a Bottle Top handy.  The infomercial claims Bottle Tops are easy to put on and remove.  It also claims they will preserve carbonation and keep cans from spilling over.

To test the preservation of carbonation we opened two cans of soda and installed a Bottle Top on one of them.  We then placed both cans of soda in the refrigerator over night.  When we came back the next day we poured both sodas into a cup and just like the infomercial the soda in the can with the Bottle Top was still fully carbonated while the one without was quite flat.  As promised, the Bottle Top was extremely easy to put on and take off of the can.

When we tested to see if the Bottle Top made the can spill proof, we were disappointed to see that soda leaked out of the top.  It was a slow drip and would definitely prevent a major spill if tipped over, but it wasn’t 100% spill proof.  We also quickly realized that Bottle Tops would only work with standard 12 oz. can sizes.  Cans like the ones used for Red Bull or Arizona Iced Tea would not work with Bottle Tops.

Pros:

  • Easy to Install and Remove
  • Keeps Soda Carbonated Longer
  • Washable and Reusable

Cons:

  • Not 100% Spill Proof
  • Doesn’t Fit Every Can Size

In the end, we felt that Bottle Tops primary function is to turn a can into a bottle and preserve the drink.  To this extent the product works flawlessly.  However, they do not fit on every can and unlike a bottle, the can may still leak a bit with Bottle Tops installed.  Based on this, we gave the Bottle Tops a solid rating of 5 out of 6 Stars.

I would disagree with "easy to remove." The The instruction say to squeeze the can to remove the bottle top, but the aluminum can ripped apart long before the lid gave loose. after about 10min, I finally got the lid off but lost some skin in the process. Also they are NOT dishwasher safe. The instructions spell that out but I tried it anyway on 6 of them, on the top rack. They came out totally warped and no longer able to make a seal..

I can't believe there are so many folks who say these are great...I can't find any can to fit the Bottle Top brand. I've tried various soda and beer cans and they don't pop on. I also own the Snapp Capp brand and they DO fit. So, buyer beware and choose carefully.

The first time snapping an unused Botle Top on is hard. Then it gets easier after each usage. And finally, it would slowly leaks out at the joint of the can's top. Seems like it can only be reuse a few times before it would start leaking.
