I have never owned a pair of binoculars but there have been more than one occasion in my life where I had wished I had a pair. The makers of the Optic 1050 Binoculars make some pretty bold claims about their product. According to their infomercial they provide 1000% magnification and can see objects up to 35 miles away. Seemed like a cool pair of binoculars that would be worthwhile owning so we put them to the test.
The Optic 1050 is a full size but lightweight pair of binoculars. They feature soft rubber eyecups, an eye width regulator and a center-focusing wheel. The Optic 1050s are shock resistant and feature a shatterproof lens. With up to 1000x magnification and a price point of under $20 the Optic 1050 Binoculars seem to be ideal for any sports fan or outdoorsman.
We took our Optic 1050s down to the beach to see how well they really work. It was a bright, sunny clear day and visibility was high. We spotted some boats out on the horizon and zoomed in on them using the Optic 1050s. They fit the eyes nicely and were very easy to focus with. The images we saw with the binoculars were definitely clear and crisp, but not sure they were 1000x magnified. We also want to test the shatterproof lenses and dropped the Optic 1050 Binoculars from a height of about four to five feet. Although the case separated slightly, the lenses did not shatter and the binoculars were still fully functional.
Pros:
- Easy to use
- Lightweight
- Great price point
Cons:
When we finished our testing we weren’t quite sure we could see things 35 miles away and that the Optic 1050 Binoculars were giving us 1000x magnification. However, we did feel the binoculars were easy to use, worked quite well and were relatively inexpensive. The Optic 1050 Binoculars are a solid choice for someone who always wanted some good binoculars but didn’t want to spend a ton. We give the Optic 1050 a very solid 5 out of 6 Stars.
