When it comes to eating, I am not always the neatest person around. In fact, most times I leave an Italian restaurant, a red sauce stain is coming with me. So when I saw an infomercial for Out Paste Instant Stain Remover with a woman easily removing nasty stains from her white shirt, I was all over it. The infomercial was making some bold claims and showing some astonishing results. It was time to place an order and put this stuff to the test. The package includes a tube of the Out Paste Instant Stain Remover as well as a handy Instant Stain Stick. According to their claims even the toughest stains, ones that were impossible to get out, will disappear instantly. Even stains like fruit, grass, ink and pet stains are supposedly no match for Out. They say its safe for colors and delicate fabrics and can be used for clothing, carpets, upholstery, car seats, leather and more. Its even gentle on your skin and can be used to clean stains on your hands like magic.
We jumped right in and replicated the test boldly showed in the infomercial. A woman rubs iodine, ink and various fruits on her white shirt and then with a couple of swipes of Out on a rag the stains vanish. We didn’t have any iodine around but we messed up our white shirt with strawberry stains, blueberry stains and even some ink. We immediately applied Out as instructed by the included manual and were pleasantly surprised to see the blueberry and strawberry stains vanish in front of our eyes. However, we were dismayed to see that Out left behind a large, dark ink stain. For a real world test, we spilled some ketchup on a tie. Any businessman who has had a burger and fries for lunch can relate to this one. We blotted up what we could and then applied the Out Stain Stick to the mess on our tie. Once again we were pleasantly surprised as the stain vanished. The tie dried nicely and the ketchup stain was gone.
We then wanted to see how Out would perform on some other fabrics and spilled grape juice on a pillow. The stain was pretty nasty and we once again followed the manufacturer’s directions to use Out to remove the stain. As advertised the stain once again vanished before our eyes. However, upon drying the product left an area of residue where it was used. This was certainly better than the purple stain, but didn’t leave the pillow looking like it did before the spill. Pros:
- Does a nice job removing basic stains from clothing
- Stain stick is convenient and easy to use
- Safe for use on hands
Cons:
- Didn’t work as well on tough stains like ink
- Left residue behind on fabric pillow

Overall the Out Instant Stain Remover kit did a decent job on some basic stains that otherwise may have been difficult to deal with. However, with the tougher stains such as ink and grape juice on a pillow it didn’t perform nearly as well as they show in the infomercial. The stain stick was nice, but I’m not sure it woks better than any other stain stick you can pick up at your local super market. It was neat to see some of the stains vanish as we used the product, but in the end it fell far short of being the miracle stain remover they make it out to be on TV. Based on that we are going to give the Out Instant Stain Remover a rating of 2 out of 6 Stars.
