What I really enjoy about posting articles on my blog is that it tests my own knowledge and I learn new things every single day. It would be so easy having reached middle age to become a boring old recluse, or an old dog with no wish to learn new tricks, and perhaps I have done for 1 or 2 years, I seem to have become so wrapped up in my "normal" career that it has really impacted on my knowledge outside of the work environment, and that I am sorry to say I do regret!
It came as a surprise to me that the "Rate My" websites of which RateMyProfessors.com is one, have been around for almost a decade. Perhaps I am simply in the wrong age group, being somewhere in-between the students and the aging, stereotypical professors that a good proportion of the remarks on RateMyProfessor.com appear to be aimed at?
It is also refreshing to know there are still some quite generalised subjects out there that I appear to be completely out of touch with; RateMyProfessors pushes the boundaries to an extent I could not even have believed possible when I was at school.
Remember, corporate punishment? That never happened, it’s not PC. It never hurt me though, well for more than 10 minutes or so each time the cane made contact with my buttocks and created another dent in my pride, but I guess that’s a subject for a whole different and substantially longer article.
RateMyProfessors, so how does that work then? It appears to me to be a legalised form of bullying by children. Well that really is a turn out for the books, excuse the pun but the uneducated bullying the educated, well that’s just an extension of an old theme really isn’t it, but what an odd way for it to present itself.
It appears that some tutors have had enough of this open criticism and few appear to have escaped comment with over 10,000,000 ratings/comments on the site and that brings me back to being out of touch as when I first visited the RateMyProfessors website I had only one thought, "Flash in the Pan",but some 10 years later it’s still there?
I am sure that RateMyProfessors has many warm and glowing comments too but should we be exposing these people who make their best efforts to arm the future generation for what is inevitably to come their way to such short term and potentially misguided luxuries? I can just see these same youngsters setting up the website of tomorrow, RateMyBoss, what an interesting site that will make excepting the fact that bosses have the leverage of your livelihood to hold over you!
What will the youngster do when the recipients of their abuse sack them? Perhaps some bright spark will then be setting up "RateMyBenefitsCheck" in a few years time, and having been a recipient of one of those many years ago, that is one site I surely would like to make comment on!
