For anyone looking to be alerted when someone is entering onto his or her property, the Driveway Patrol promises to be the device for them. It is a wireless, remote motion detector that works like a doorbell. However, instead of a visitor having to ring the bell, the chimes automatically go off when motion is detected.
The package comes with both the motion sensor and the remote receiver/chime. Also included is a pair of screws and mollies for mounting the motion detector outside the house. You simply mount the sensor on your driveway and when the receiver is turned on, it will alert you when cars or people come up your driveway or walkway.
We mounted the motion detector transmitter outside of my house. We placed it right next to the garage door so it could cover both cars and people as they approached the house. We placed the receiver unit inside the house, in the room furthest from the garage. The manufacturer claims the transmitter can transmit a signal up to 400 feet to the receiver.
We drove a car towards the house and pulled into the driveway. As soon as the car entered the driveway, the motion sensor went off and sent the signal to the receiver, which went off loud and clear. The Driveway Patrol performed exactly as promised in the marketing materials.
