In my house we have several places where a stick lamp is necessary for central lighting. However, the way the outlets are wired to the light switch just doesn’t match the configuration of the furniture. So, the lamps are plugged into outlets not controlled by the light switch and must be manually turned on or off at the lamp. This is a major inconvenience, especially in bedrooms and other rooms that can be dark upon entry. When I saw the Billy Mays infomercial for the Handy Switch it seemed like a perfect solution for this problem and decided we needed to put it to the test.
The Handy Switch is a simple premise. It is basically a remote control light switch with a receiver outlet that you plug into any standard outlet. The remote control light switch will control any electrical device then plugged into the receiver outlet. The kit comes with a cradle that is easily mounted to any surface with some two-sided tape. The Handy Switch can then be placed in the cradle to rest on the wall like any other light switch. The nice thing is that you can remove it from the cradle at any time and remotely control the light from wherever you are in the room.
We plugged the receiver into one of the outlets in my dining room and then plugged one of my lamps into the receiver. In a matter of seconds, with no wiring, a light switch was now controlling the lamp. The Handy Switch was working exactly as advertised. We wanted to test the range of the Handy Switch and moved it all around. As far as we could get from the lamp, it worked perfectly. We even took the remote switch out into the garage and it still controlled the light flawlessly.

The Handy Switch is just one of those As Seen On TV products that promises to accomplish a simple task. It has just a single function, but it performs it perfectly and exactly how promised in the infomercial. So much so that immediately upon finishing this test, I installed this product in my son’s room and he was thrilled. We at StarReviews have to give this product a perfect rating of 6 out of 6 Stars.
