StarReviews tests many of the As Seen on TV cooking products, so it was no surprise when the Emson Bonzai Chopper showed up. We had tested a similar As Seen on TV product before – the Vidalia Chop Wizard and were more than happy with our results, so needless to say we were very eager to put this Bonzai Chopper to test.
The Bonzai Chopper chops, dices and minces vegetables and fruits directly into included storage containers for no mess food preparations. There are two different blades that are included with the Bonzai Chopper – the chopping blade and the fine mincing blade. We were set to test the Bonzai Chopper with all different fruits and vegetables.
Setting the Bonzai Chopper up for the test was pretty simple. It is a rather large device which might not be the best thing for those of you with limited cabinet space. We set the cleaning screen on the top of the unit so we could quickly remove any excess food that might get stuck during the chopping process; this was an extremely nice feature that we hadn’t seen on any other chopper we have tested to date. We installed the chopper blade for our first test and they installed quickly and easily. For our first test we chopped some firm potatoes and the Bonzai Chopper did a great job, it required a firm press on the Bonzai Chopper but our potatoes came out perfect, they would be delicious fried up in some oil for homemade french fries! We moved on to chop an onion, but our results were less than stellar there, we had a difficult time pressing the onion through the chopper and had to stop before we felt the pressure we were using could damage the hinge on the Bonzai Chopper. We changed out the chopping blade for the fine mincer blade and moved on with our testing. We minced some strawberries and the results were not so great, the strawberries seemed to get stuck on the blades as they passed through, but also the top of the Bonzai Chopper was sharp enough to pierce our soft strawberries. We then attempted to mince mushrooms and our results were very similar to the strawberry test. Pros:
- Cleaning screen is a very nice feature for making the cleanup of the Bonzai Chopper easier
- Three containers to chop and mince into make it nice for storage purposes
- Dishwasher Safe
Cons:
- Very hard to remove the blade inserts from the Bonzai Chopper
- The Bonzai Chopper doesn’t disassemble making it hard to thoroughly clean
StarReviews gets the opportunity to test many of the As Seen on TV products for cooking, with that said we have tested a few products that are marketed to be the best chopper out there. We were disappointed with the results we found when testing the Bonzai Chopper, and would recommend a different chopping product to any consumer. We were very happy with the Vidalia Chop Wizard, and would have to recommend that product over the Bonzai Chopper. StarReviews gives the Bonzai Chopper 2 out of 6 Stars, save your money and invest it into a different product that will outperform the Bonzai Chopper.
