The infomercial for The MXZ Pocket Saw just made this piece of hardware look too good to be true. They show it cutting through iron, bricks, tile, cinder blocks and even a glass bottle with the greatest of ease. Any saw that can cut like this would be one we would definitely want in our toolbox. The only question was, "Does it really cut like they show it?" Well that’s what we sought to find out by putting the MXZ Pocket Saw to the test.
The supposed secret to the The MXZ Pocket Saw is it’s precision carbide blade. They claim the blade never dulls and therefore will never need sharpening. The blade is also safe to the touch and wont cut your skin. The blade locks at an angle to allow you to cut without holding the saw straight. Among other things the MXZ is supposed to be able to cut solid steel, brick, rubber, tile, copper, wood, aluminum, and glass.
It didn’t take us long to realize this saw was not going to live up to the claims we saw on the infomercial. We tested the MXZ Pocket Saw on wood, metal, tile and glass and it was unable to get through any of them. We were unable to complete the cuts on any of the materials we tried the saw out on. There was no doubt a standard hack saw would have far outperformed this saw.
We went back and looked at the infomercial and noticed that for every one of the cuts they show the saw making, the cut is 99% complete before they show the saw. This turned out to be one of those products that just don’t work anywhere near what they show in their pitch. We were incredibly disappointed with the MXZ Pocket Saw and think consumers will be wise to stay away of this product. We gave The MXZ Pocket Saw 0 out 6 Stars and tossed this one into the scrap heap.
