For those of us who have yet to master the kitchen skill of cracking an egg, the EZ Cracker is just what is needed. The device promises to crack eggs quickly and easily with out any shells falling in. It also claims to be virtually mess free and able to both separate egg whites and strip shells from hard-boiled eggs. Seemed like a straightforward product so we brought it in and put it to the test.
At the time of this post the EZ Cracker was available for $19.95 plus shipping and handling. The unit ships with an egg separator attachment that is used for separating egg whites from yolks. The attachment clips on and off with ease. The entire unit is made of plastic except for the small blades used to crack the egg. It was lightweight, comfortable to hold but unfortunately not dishwasher safe.
For our initial test we simply tried cracking some eggs with the EZ Cracker. It was easy to use and did a great job cracking the eggs. No shells got mixed into the cracked egg and there was no mess to deal with. Next, we add the egg separator attachment and tried to separate some eggs. This time the EZ Cracker didn’t perform quite as well. It worked, but not consistently enough. We encountered the same inconsistency when we tried stripping the shells from hard-boiled eggs.

Cons:
In the end this device would be useful to someone who needs to crack a lot of eggs and isn’t very good at it. The EZ Cracker would be a great way to get children working in the kitchen as well. When it comes to separating eggs and shelling hard-boiled eggs, traditional means are probably still the best bet. We gave the EZ Cracker an overall rating of 3 out of 6 Stars.
