One of our favorite As Seen On TV pitchmen, Anthony Sullivan, is back at it again with the Smart Mop. He really makes this supposed super absorbent mop look awesome in his infomercial. We at StarReviews.com wanted to see just how well this product really performs, so we brought one in and put it to the test.
The Smart Mop is similar to traditional mops, however it is made up of a chamois like material. It’s kinda like having a Shaw Wow at the end of your mop. The manufacturers of the Smart Mop claim it picks up ten times its own weight in liquid. They also claim it can pick up sand, dirt, dust, ketchup and even pet hair. Using the Smart Mop requires no sweeping or vacuuming prior to using it, which is supposed to cut your cleaning time in half. Additionally, the mop heads are machine washable and should last for years.
For our first test we replicated exactly what Anthony Sullivan shows in the infomercial. We dumped an entire twelve-ounce can of soda onto a tile floor and tried to clean it up with the Smart Mop. Although it did a decent job with the first pass, it didn’t soak up every drop like they show in the infomercial. Unlike when Anthony Sullivan holds the mop over his head without a drop, our Smart Mop dripped quite a bit.
We also replicated the test shown in the infomercial where they spill ketchup, mustard and dirt onto a tile floor. With this test the Smart Mop performed extremely well and did a great job of getting everything up without any sweeping or vacuuming.
Pros:
- No bending over to wring out
- Mop heads are machine washable
- Mop is extremely absorbent
Cons:
- Not quite the wonder mop the infomercial portrays
Overall, the Smart Mop is a really nice mop. It is easy to use, the heads are machine washable and it really is an absorbent mop. It can be used without any sweeping or mopping and should make mopping up easier than with traditional mopping solutions. We rated Anthony Sullivan’s Smart Mop a solid 4 out of 6 stars.
