The fall 2009 video game season is upon us and that means countless hours spent in front of the television playing Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age Origins, and Left 4 Dead 2. I can’t wait to get my hands on these titles, especially COD, but I still can’t help but look forward to what else is on the more distant horizon. From WOW: Cataclysm to Mass Effect 2; there are some incredible titles set to premiere in 2010. Here are my top picks for the must have games of 2010:
God of War III. I have missed Kratos and he is the only reason why I would pick up a PS3 controller anytime in the near future. We last saw Kratos on Gaia’s back and that is where the story will pick up in GOW III. Kratos will still be angry. He will still be wielding his Blades of Chaos. But most importantly, he will still hack and slash his way from the top of mount Olympus to the bowels of Hell. I for one will be the first in line to join his Spartan army come March 2010.
Castlevania: Lord of Shadows. I am intrigued by this title because I have been a fan of the Castlevania franchise ever since the first time I saw the centuries old battle between the Belmont clan and the man himself, Dracula. The main character of this title is named Gabriel and as far as I can tell he has no affiliation with the Belmont family. Gabriel’s wife has been murdered by an evil power that he must vanquish. As a member of the Brotherhood of Light, Gabriel is pulling double duty: vengeful husband and defender of the forces of good. The story is set at the end of days and appears to be all you could want from a storyline and a video game: the eternal struggle of good versus evil, an awesome weapon called the Combat Cross, and hours of late night amusement.

Dead Rising 2. I love zombies. I love zombie movies. I own tons of zombie merchandise. There is even an "I love zombies" sticker plastered to the back of my Nintendo DS. The original Dead Rising was fun and I must admit that it left me wanting more. Well thankfully my prayers will be answered in the first quarter of 2010. Capcom has reported that there will be upwards of 7,000 zombies waiting to devour your fleshy limbs, on the screen at one time. I have no idea how I will be able to kill that many blood thirsty killing machines with a metal folding chair, but I am definitely willing to give it a try.
This is a partial list of the must have video games for 2010. There are others that deserve mention, such as Metroid: Other M, Splatterhouse (yes, that Splatterhouse), and MAG. Have fun and do a little research before buying any video game title. The last thing you want is to be down $60 and stuck with an awful, unplayable game. You might actually have to open a book or take a walk!
