As someone who has been in this situation all too many times, my advice to everyone is to buy any and all event tickets as early as possible. This includes concert tickets, theater tickets, sporting event tickets, and more. In most cases, if you wait until the last minute you will be sorry. You will either not be able to get tickets because the event is sold out, or you will have to scour the internet for sources to purchase the tickets and end up paying double, triple, or even quadruple the price of the face value. Your other option will be to go to the event anyway and hope that some crazy man is selling them outside – but you know you will have to pay more than what they are worth even in that situation. And do you really want to get all the way to the event and then have to turn around and drive back home after not being able to get tickets?
My last personal experience with waiting until the last minute was for the recent No Doubt concert tour. I really wanted to go, but I didn’t want to pay a premium price for the better seats. It just wasn’t in my budget that month. I only planned on buying a lawn seat ticket for ten dollars. I assumed lawn seats did not sell out because there aren’t actual seats – just a giant lawn and you bring your own blanket or lawn chair. Boy was I wrong!! Just to be sure, I called the venue about 3 hours before the show to confirm lawn seat tickets were still available only to have my heart broken. Lawn seats do, in fact, sell out. I searched Craigslist for the tickets and only found scams. My last hope was to look for that crazy man outside the event to score a ticket. Luckily, I found such a man but ended up paying $40 for a $10 ticket. If I had paid $40 when the tickets first went on sale – I would have been much closer to the stage!
