The "official" list of most popular baby names comes from the Social Security Administration and the list for 2009 is out. Emma and Jacob top the list this year with last years number one Emily falling to number three. But, Emily and Jacob are still the names of the decade for the 2000's. I am sure my parents, Jack and Emily, are very proud of this honor. Emily and Jacob close out the 2000's on top after a two decade run at the top by Michael and Jessica.

As a 40 something male with no children, I can safely tell you that until 6 months ago, the topic of
baby names was far down on my list on topics for dinner table discussions. But that has changed and it seems that my life is all about
baby names,
baby toys,
babys room ... I think you get the point. My wife, Jessica, is expecting our
first baby but her name has not made the top 10 list. I will check back around Thanksgiving and give you the
baby name update.
Here is an interesting note, the most popular names for male twins, were Jacob with Joshua, Matthew with Michael and Daniel with David. The most popular combination for female twins was Ella and Emma.
On to the list of the top 10 baby names of the year.
