A 20 year old Idaho woman, recently married and driving down a country road on the Idaho-Montana border with her husband Daniel was impaled by a branch from a spruce tree. The Sept 5th incident stunned both Michelle and Daniel Childers as the branch of the spruce tree crashed through the window of the family car and into the neck of Michelle.
After the incident, Daniel drove a few miles to the Lochsa Lodge for help and Michelle was flown to St. Patrick Hospital by helicopter where the 13 inch tree limb was removed from her neck in a 6 hour surgery. Michelle said that on the drive to the lodge, she and Daniel were saying their "goodbyes" and "I love you" as she didn't know if she would survive. In the end, except for a nasty scar and some bad memories, Michelle will make a full recovery and have some interesting stories to tell and scary photos to show to friends and family.
