It would be impossible to have lived in the past 50 years and not heard the name Michael Jackson. Yesterday afternoon the world was stunned with the news out of Los Angeles about the death of the pop legend at the young age of 50. There is no doubt that the last years of his life were filled with questions and controversy, but this blog post is not going to be about that.

Let's instead celebrate the legacy and life of a celebrity that stole the world’s attention at the young age of 11 with his family's music group and his four brothers in the
Jackson Five. It was from that point forward that Michael Jackson would be in the limelight of not just America, but of the world. Controversy can always be brought up when discussing the scale of childhood celebrities and how it affects their life down the road, but he was not the first and certainly will not be the last child celebrity.
It isn't an argument that he was the first child pop star/rock star, and he carried that status throughout his life, with numerous honors and award recognition. Perhaps in 1982 no one would imagine that
Michael Jackson's album Thriller would be the best selling album ever worldwide still as I type this 27 years later. From album sales to
music downloads there is no doubt that the legacy will live on. It is a sad day indeed for the music industry and the world as a whole, but hopefully it will be marked by remembering his good accomplishments and not be overshadowed by the problems he encountered later in his life.
RIP Michael Jackson, in my opinion the last of the BIG stars.
