McAfee recently launched its Cybercrime Response Unit (CRU) in an effort to help people victimized by cybercrime. The new site also provides a great deal of information to help visitors avoid becoming a victim of computer crime. In essence, the CRU will help you determine if you have been victimized, help you take the appropriate actions, and then lower your risk of you being a future victim.
The site has a simple one-page risk assessment form to help users determine if they have been a victim of cyber crime. These crimes take many forms including virus infection, identity theft and even cyber stalking. The form has eight basic questions and based on the user's responses will inform the user as to any potential risks they may be open to. The results page also provides the user with specific actions to take in order to deal with their problem. It will inform you not only of what to do, but who to report the crime to.
McAfee is obviously supporting its product lines here and presenting links to their various solutions such as McAfee Anti-Virus 2009. However, the links/promotions are not overwhelming and are quite useful. Yes, this a means to sell more internet security software, but the Cybercrime Response Unit is definitely about much more than just that.

The site also provides detailed articles on a variety of critical subjects such as keeping your family safe online, safeguarding your computer and best practices. The articles are all extremely informative and contain a wealth of valuable information for protecting yourself, your family and your business from cybercrime.
Whether you feel like you may have been victimized by some form of computer crime or want to educate and protect yourself from cybercrime, this site is on target. Kudos to McAfee for taking a serious step towards fighting and preventing cybercrime.
