If you are watching More to Love, and you have yet to catch on completely, you should probably recognize after this week, these girls have been judged by their weight. Well, some of them have. And those that have not are obviously instructed to behave as if they have been. Luke eliminated two girls last night, and neither of them came as a real surprise.
First to go was Mel B. After the ladies in the house held a vote to determine who they felt would make the best and worse wife for Luke, he escorted both the "winner" and "loser" on a one-on-one date. Mel B., voted worst wife for all of the right reasons, none of which had to do with her appearance, was treated to a Moroccan dinner, complete with belly dance lessons. Slowly but surely, this poor girl is getting her act together, but she is still going to have a long road ahead of her. While Luke is just about rounding second with a few of his favorite ladies, Mel B. is just happy he is not being mean to her. Of all of the girls, this experience for her was about being accepted by people, and she appears to have made strides. Even so, she was sent packing at show's end, and will hopefully view the entire thing as a growing experience.
Completely opposite of Mel B.'s tentative and insecure personality, Lauren also bid adieu to Luke and the other girls. None too soon, Luke had heard enough of her trash talking, gossiping, and obvious gold digger tendencies. Within the first two episodes, Lauren had blathered on and on to Luke about how their values and ambitions were so alike. Her motivation never stopped being obvious, and last night, Luke flat out asked her if she considered herself a competitive person. To her credit, she answered honestly, but little of it had to do with true feelings for Luke. He is obviously looking for a girl with which he shares a natural spark, and Lauren was not it.
Coming from out of nowhere, fitness trainer Mandy shared a little smooching time with Luke during their alone time on the group date. Mandy seems to have genuine feelings for Luke, but may get in a little too deep, too quickly. She appears to be a front runner at this time though, along with Heather and Malissa. Both shared significant scenes with Luke, Heather having a candlelit dinner at a castle and Malissa making out with Luke in the bathtub during their spa day. If forced to pick the final three right now, it would no doubt include Malissa and Heather.
The aspect of the show that is becoming difficult to deal with is so many of these girls identify themselves as only one thing. It makes veiwers scream at the TV "OK! We get it! People haven't liked you because you're fat!" Except that probably is not the reason at all they have suffered emotionally. The girls that have a history of subpar social lives have obviously been judged by their low self-esteem and lack of self-respect, and blamed their size for their mistreatment. Every now and then, one of the more confident girls will bring up their weight, but it is almost as if they are saying Luke is a great guy, they would love to spend a lot of time with him, and oh, by the way, I'm plus-sized. Which is a great attitude to have, but obviously does not fit with the agenda of the show. It would be nice if, in coming episodes, they could get beyond the size of the girls and just focus on who he will pick. He knows they are big girls. They know they are big girls. Viewers know they are big girls. No one needs to be talking about it anymore.
Next week, it looks like the claws are on the way out. With isolation from reality and a decreasing number of ladies, things are getting less game-like and more like a real life competition for a guy's attention. Luke will be faced with the girl's jealousy, and will show the television world the best way to walk the delicate tight rope of being the object of a bevy of admirers.
