With his options down to the two final ladies, and his final choice due by the end of the two hour finale, Luke took Malissa and Tali home to meet his family. After lunch in the park with Tali and his dog, they ventured to his father’s home for a cook out with Luke’s brother, grandmother, and father. Luke’s grandmother approved of Tali, but seemed like the type of lady that would approve of everyone. Luke’s dad was a different story. He grilled Tali, primarily about her Israeli heritage. He made no bones about the fact he felt Luke and Tali would meet struggle after struggle coming from two different religious backgrounds. He also made it very clear he expected any children that may come into their family to be raised Christian. He was polite to Tali, but it was the tight-lipped sort of polite that makes someone know they are only welcome somewhere because their son is on a television show. It was almost as if the producers had told Luke’s dad to make sure everyone knew he was Christian because Tali was Jewish. On a brighter note, it was nice to hear one of the girls pigeonholed into something other than being overweight.
Tali handled her undoubtedly uncomfortable visit with grace. She fielded the questions about her heritage and religion thoughtfully and honestly. Luke intervened when things became too heated and his dad backed off a bit. Even so, Tali left the evening with legitmate concerns. If his father had anything to say about it, she would not be Luke’s final choice.
The following night, Luke brought Malissa home. His dad was immediately smitten. She, as usual, was sickeningly phony, rattling on about her admiration and respect for Luke. While Malissa chatted with Luke’s grandmother alone, the men retired to the backyard for coffee. Luke’s father made it clear he felt the only choicee was Malissa. Luke stood strong and assured both his father and brother he had not made a final choice, but that ultimately it would be up to him and they would have to accept it.
The next day, the girls were relaxing in the bedroom back at the More to Love compound. Malissa told Tali she was not thrilled to be back in the room with her. Tali said little in response. Both girls were surprised when the doorbell rang. Luke’s mother had arrived for a visit, and hopefully, would offer Luke some insight that was a bit less based in religious bias.
Malissa baked muffins and announced it was done to impress Luke’s mom. She then spent all of breakfast going on and on about how much she adored Luke. When his mother broke through her monologue, she asked the girls why they had come on the show. Tali answered first and it was eloquent and inspiring. It was obvious his mom was impresssed. Malissa’s answer was trite and included the phrase "I can’t believe I’m one of the final characters." The comment did not go unnoticed.
Try as she might to whitewash her suspicions, Luke’s mother obviously saw through Malissa’s motivations. She confirmed what Luke had already begun to see. Malissa was on a mission from the beginning, she may or may not be interested in getting married, and ultimately, this was a game to her. In the end, Luke went easy on her, explaining he loved her and thought she was a wonderful woman, but his heart belonged to Tali. Malissa was sent on her way in a stretch limo, still wearing her hot pink chiffon gown. She wept as she explained to the camera that she thought she had found love but she must have been wrong.
Tali, wearing a beatiful watercolor halter dress arrived at the More to Love house. Luke greeted her, nervous, but happy to have reached this point. He presented her with the engagement ring he had picked especially for her earlier in the day. His proposal expressed the feelings he had developed over their time together, and she accepted. Reports are the couple was not allowed to see one another until the finale had aired. Will they remain together? Only time will tell. Tali will need to relocate to southern California from New York, but should have little trouble finding work in the modeling and inspirational speaking, the fields she was pursuing since she moved to America from Israel. Rumor has it there will be another season of More to Love in the near future. Perhaps it will kick off with a report on Luke and Tali, the first love connection of the series.
