Today I will be talking about something that I really believe in, Voice Over IP or VOIP for Short. VOIP service is a form of technology that computer geeks have been enjoying for a while in the form of computer-to-computer voice communication.
Over the past couple of years companies have figured out a way to take the computer out of the equation and use your regular home phone. Basically it is a phone line powered by your internet connection. VOIP service includes all of the same perks you have become accustom to from a regular landline service, such as caller ID, Call forwarding, 3 way calling.
VOIP service also includes benefits that a regular landline service does not provide. One of my favorites is voice to text mail, a service by which your received voicemail is converted into a text message and delivered right to your text message capable cell phone. Not only that, but VOIP service also delivers your voicemails in the form of a WAV file to your email.
Another great thing that I have found with VOIP service is that you can have a phone number from anywhere in the US. For example, if you live in FL and have family in NY whom have not been brave enough to make the switch to a VOIP plan, you can actually get a phone number in NY so that when your family calls they are not paying any expensive long distance fees. You could even live in London and have a New York phone number, How cool is that?

The phone quality is excellent but will vary depending on your VOIP service. Well, I’ve left the best part for last, VOIP is extremely cost effective and will allow you to save a lot of money and the savings will be noticed immediately. My VOIP plan is currently $30 a month, after taxes, for services that I used to pay well over $100. All VOIP plans include unlimited local and long distance calls. If you still have a landline service and are intimidated by making the switch I advise that you go ahead and take that leap of faith because once you get VOIP service you’ll forget about the phone company.
