The system registry is a giant database on your computer that Windows and many, many applications use almost constantly to store and retrieve settings, share settings between applications, and keep information about your computer hardware and software. This clean install process is not one to be taken lightly as it not only requires you to keep up with all of your software and product codes, but also it may take several hours just to install Windows as well as several more hours to install all of the applications plus additional time to re-customize all of the features you had before the crash. In a business environment, this would mean several days of lost productivity at a workstation, as well as the lost productivity of the employee and the technician fixing the system. Essential files stored on the computer could also be lost. During the slow demise of the computer as a result of registry corruption, you will probably also find the computer operating increasingly sluggish to almost unresponsive leading also to another loss of productivity.
