Located just a few miles southwest of Chicago lies the town of Justice, Illinois. At first glance, this sleepy village looks much like any other small mid western town. With a population of just over twelve thousand, the entire town lays within an area of three square miles. However, within it's city limits lies Resurrection Cemetery, a graveyard known as much for it's mystery as it is for it's beauty.
With headstones dating back to the 1890's, the cemetery has been a constant in the town's backdrop. However, it is a set of events that have occurred since the 1930's that has propelled this final resting place into infamy. According to legend, several men have claimed that while driving northeast along Archer Avenue between the Willowbrook Ballroom and Resurrection Cemetery, each have picked up a young female hitchhiker dressed in a formal white party gown. She is said to have pale blond hair, and blue eyes and according to those who claim to have picked this young woman up, she was very quiet during the short ride they shared. This in itself does not seem to be anything out of the ordinary, but it is what happens afterward that has intrigued many who have heard the story of the young woman. Each driver has stated that when he neared the Resurrection Cemetery, the young woman asked to be let out, whereupon she disappears into the cemetery. Chicago Tribune, "full-time ghost hunter" Richard Crowe claims to have collected more than three dozen substantiated reports of the events from the 1930s to the present. All who have heard the legend wonders who this young woman is and why she seems lured to the cemetery grounds. According to those who have researched the story these many years, her name is Mary and her story is truly a sad tale. The legend says that Mary had spent the evening out dancing with a boyfriend at the Oh Henry Ballroom. At some point during the evening, they had gotten into an argument and Mary stormed out of the building and into the cold winter's night.

After leaving the ballroom, she started walking up Archer Avenue, however she did not make it very far. She was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, who fled and left Mary to die alone on the side of the road. Her grief stricken parents buried her in Resurrection Cemetery, wearing the beautiful white dancing dress and matching dancing shoes. The hit-and-run driver was never found, and many believe that this is why Mary is not able to rest. Constantly roaming the lonely stretch of road that she lost her young life on all those many years ago, searching for justice. She has been encountered walking in the rain and snow but according to those who have seen her, she remains perfectly dry. Her hair and dress are untouched by the weather. Is the legend of Resurrection Mary real? That is a story that must be decided by those who come to seek her. Either way, her story remains legend.
