If you have ever wondered what reasons there may be for your computer becoming slower and slower over time, it is not always necessarily due to the amount of registry items or spyware that has accumulated during those long browsing sessions. Indeed quite often it may be the user themselves whom are responsible for a pc becoming laboriously slow and the use of a defragger may well ease the speed problem.
If one has gone down the road of Spyware, registry cleaners, virus software and the like and still not managed to gain a satisfactory result then there are further options that one may wish to consider;
- The amount of RAM that is running processes on the pc
- How many files are stored on the hard drive
- Where and how files are stored
1. Computers all run a variety of processes and depending upon how a computer is set up, files stored etc will largely depend upon how, when and how much RAM (Random Access Memory) is used. What does appear to confuse people somewhat is how, when buying a pc with more RAM than their last piece of hardware, their systems appear to become slower more quickly than ever before and the defragger undoubtedly gets more use. This is largely down to the sophistication of programming itself and in particular software such as; cutting edge games that have an unrelenting thirst to eat up ones available RAM to give the user the most exciting and realistic thrill. It is by no means limited to the gaming industry, indeed Vista requires much more RAM to get itself working than its predecessor and therefore one can assume that a like for like purchase of hardware and RAM yet with newer software such as Vista may indeed also be responsible for a more speedy return to the hardware shops than one previously may have planned. The answer to this is simple, forget looks and promises, RAM is the king in terms of keeping a pc useful for any length of time. 2. Storing as little amount of files as possible on a computer hard drive will also help towards extending the productive lifetime of a modern day computer. Try and avoid bulky files (of which games are a generally big offender) and if possible do not store the actual program on the desktop but use shortcuts from there instead.

3. Finally, in this brief article is the use of the defragger; Over time one will install and remove many programs which will undoubtedly over time leave signatures and file paths across the computer which get in the way of good processing. Depending on how much a user leaves the computer up to its own devices e.g. saving files and programs in random places and generally not carrying out good pc housekeeping, will depend on how much use a defragger might be. Effectively the defragging process can be likened to that of hiring a cleaner or house maid; they will come along; clean, tidy and put everything back in its rightful place in order that one doesn’t need to search high and low to find items around the house. This is exactly what a defragger will do for a computer; it looks at all of the files and structures and effectively reorganises them neatly in order that they can be found on request more easily and with the least amount of pressure on the computers processor.
