The eHealthInsurance Experience:

Initially, the eHealthInsurance website is easy to navigate. Since they offer all different types of health insurance, you do have to click on a specific link to view their dental insurance coverage information. On that page, they request that you fill in basic information including your zip code and email address.

Once you've provided that info the site brings you to a page outlining the different plans available and their estimated costs. You'll see a variety of plans to choose from including discount dental plans as well as actual insurance coverage. The Coinsurance payments are usually at a 50% standard, but do go as high as 90% with some packages and as low as 20% in others.

Almost all of the plans do have annual maximum dollar amounts, from about $70 to $1500 per person, for covered services. These types of maximums can be avoided if you opt for a dental plan rather than dental insurance coverage.

While the plan information was easy to find, securing a quote for family services was a little bit more complicated. We had to submit information for each family member, including children, and they only give you four boxes to do this. There is, however, a quick “add” children option that allows you to enter in more information. Once you do this, the plan options that do come up are again fairly standard.

In many of the plans that eHealthInsurance offers, you do have long waiting periods for particular services. Wait times can range anywhere from 6 to 18 months. You also have deductibles in addition to your monthly premiums. The standard deductible payment is about $50 annually.

A good feature about eHealthInsurance is that they offer a variety of indemnity plans that enable you to pay the dental provider the full amount upfront and then your insurance reimburses you. These plans provide you with a larger selection of providers than PPO coverage does, since PPO coverage is typically limited to a network of providers.

Overall, we found eHealthInsurance's dental plans to be quite comprehensive. Whether you're looking for a simple discount plan or inclusive insurance coverage, they have what you're looking for.

eHealthInsurance offers great customer care service. They have a toll free 800 number so and their agents are licensed health insurance representatives. In the spirit of keeping up with the times, eHealthInsurance does have a Live Chat feature. On each different page there is a section with common questions for that topic, whether it is dental care, vision insurance, general health coverage, and so on. They also provide a contact number and e-mail address for health care insurance questions.
