Although the Privacy Matters 1-2-3 has has a free trial, be prepared to have a refundable $1 fee charged to your card upfront. This fee will  only be returned if you cancel during your 7 day free trial for the Privacy Matters 1-2-3 monitoring program. With that being said, we did appreciate that Privacy Matters 1-2-3 told us this straight off the bat! There are no hidden fees with this site and we did feel that the monthly fee is well worth the service you receive. Here's the inside scoop on Privacy Matters 1-2-3:

What's New with Privacy Matters 1-2-3?

  • 3 Free annual credit reports from the major credit reporting agencies Equifax, Experian and Transunion with access to credit scores
  • Credit monitoring 24/7 from all 3 agencies
  • 7 Day free trial ($1 deposit required)

StarReviews' Favorite Privacy Matters 1-2-3 Feature:

Our favorite feature of Privacy Matters 1-2-3 is the comprehensive FAQ section. It answers consumer questions on how to read their credit reports, how their credit score is calculated as well as information about the 3 credit reporting agencies that have the task of gathering information contained in your credit report.

The Privacy Matters 1-2-3 Experience:

After filling out the credit report and 3 score request form on Privacy Matters 1-2-3, consumers are told that by clicking on “get my scores” they are agreeing to sign up for the monitoring service called “Privacy Matters 1-2-3” where they will be charged a refundable $1.00 processing fee. If not cancelled within the 7 day free trial period, they will immediately be charged another $29.95 which will be recurring each month.

Privacy Matters 1-2-3 is somewhat confusing as the home page makes it seem that site users will receive 3 individual credit reports from each of the credit reporting agencies however when it comes down to it, the report is a consolidated 3-in-1 file that is similar to what other providers offer.

Privacy Matters 1-2-3 offers credit monitoring services where members receive additional benefits such as access to their free learning center. They will also receive identity theft restoration services at no additional cost in the event that their credit information is compromised. Similar credit reporting services actually offer insurance backing up their claims that they will protect you from identity theft; Privacy Matters 1-2-3 does not offer such protection.

All Privacy Matters 1-2-3 Features:

  • 3 Free annual credit reports from the major credit reporting agencies Equifax, Experian and Transunion.
  • 3 credit scores included with your credit reports.
  • Free email alerts letting you know of suspicious activity on your credit
  • 7 Day free trial
  • Refundable $1.00 processing fee if cancelled within 7 days

Privacy Matters 1-2-3 Pricing:

The initial charge for processing is $1.00. If not cancelled within the 7 day free trial period consumers will be billed $29.95 per month thereafter.

Privacy Matters 1-2-3 Customer Service:

Customer service can be contacted via telephone during normal business hours. A test call was answered promptly by a friendly representative who answered our questions with no problem. The company can also be contacted via email, which we tested as well. Our email was intelligently answered in a record 3 hours, with an additional phone number to contact if we had any further questions.

Upside:

The FAQ section answers consumer questions on how to read their credit reports, how their credit score is calculated as well as information about the 3 credit reporting agencies that have the task of gathering information contained in your credit report.

Downside:

The monthly fee for the credit monitoring service is a little more expensive when compared to similar credit reporting and monitoring services. Privacy Matters 1-2-3 shares personal information with third party vendors as well as claims to “own” the information that they collect from the site. This practice is not only unacceptable but fringes on consumer’s privacy rights.
