Not wanting to pay $14 and higher for a Sicilian Pizza and engaged to a Sicilian who loves his pizza, I decided I was going to set out and master baking my own. After many trials and tribulations, I finally achieved my goal! The secret is in the crust. If it isn’t golden and crispy, it tastes doughy.
Perfect Pizza Ingredients
1 package of active dry yeast. 1-cup warm water 2 cups bread flour (no substitutions) 2 Tablespoons olive oil 1-teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons white sugar 1 rectangular cookie sheet. Tomato sauce Basil Oregano Garlic powder Grated Mozzarella Cheese
Optional Ingredients- Sausage and onions, minced.
You will need a mixer with a bowl for the best outcome. First add the dry yeast to the bowl and then the warm water. Let sit for a few minutes, this allows for proofing of the yeast.
Add the cups of flour, 2 Tablespoons olive oil, 1 teaspoon of salt and the 2 teaspoons of white sugar.
Turn the mixer on slow and knead the dough to all ingredients are blended.
Roll dough out with a rolling pin making sure to make a rectangular shape that corresponds with the size of the cookie sheet. Place the dough on the cookie sheet. You don't have to let the dough rise. This saves lots of time.
Place the tomato sauce on the dough. Please be sure not to add too much. Then add the basil, oregano and garlic powder. Now add the cheese. You can use as much as you like. I added the sausage and small pieces of minced onion on the top of the cheese.
Bake in the oven at 420 degrees until the pizza is a golden brown for 12-13 minutes. Do watch the pizza as it cooks because although I waited 12-13 minutes, all ovens vary in temperature. When done, remove the pizza from oven and slice using a pizza cutter.
Enjoy!
