At this point in the game, the team here at StarReviews had researched four different insurance quote websites and we were beginning to wonder if we'd ever find anything “different” out there. So far, each of the sites had offered pretty much the same thing, other than varying rates and levels of service. It was becoming a bit monotonous. Fortunately, Insurance.com was next on our list of auto insurance reviews to complete. Finally, something a bit different...
What’s New?
- Compare multiple rates from a variety of insurance providers at one site.
- Chat live with an insurance agent for answers to your questions.
- Buy your coverage online or via the phone.
StarReviews' Favorite Feature:
We were really impressed with Insurance.com's live chat option – especially when we were going through the quote process. This not only allowed us to have our questions answered instantly, but it also gave us peace of mind knowing that if something came up that was a problem during the quote process, there would be someone there to help. It's a really great feature.
About Insurance.com:
Unlike some of the other auto insurance providers we reviewed, Insurance.com is more like a brokerage than an actual insurance provider. Their Internet site is actually the result of an acquisition by Comparison Market Inc. from the original owners, Fidelity Capital. Since this change of hands, Insurance.com has experienced consistent growth and they now have sold over a half-a-million policies.
What Insurance.com Offers:
- Multiple quotes from a variety of insurance providers
- Auto Insurance articles
- Auto Insurance tips
- Recreational vehicle insurance
- Insurance Learning Center
- Insurance.com Newsletter
The Insurance.com Experience:
When we first arrived at the Insurance.com website, we really liked what we saw. The site is colorful and attractive, while at the same time functional. For the most part, our visit to Insurance.com was really a “wow” experience. We had initially gone to Insurance.com looking for one quote, and ended up with four of them.
To get a quote from Insurance.com, you first have to enter your zip code into the required field. Once we did that, we were brought to a few pages that queried us about general information, such as number of drivers and vehicles to be insured. At that time we were also given the opportunity to chat with an Insurance.com agent, which made us feel better about the entire process overall.
Once you've completed the steps above, you're presented with questions that are specific to the insured driver. These questions included number of years driving, number of traffic violations and other similar information. After that, you just enter vehicle-specific information on the type of auto insurance you want.
After we had completed all of the above steps, we were presented with several quotes from various insurance providers. This allowed us to quickly compare and decide which company was best for us. After that, it was just a matter of contacting our chosen provider via the link provided or contacting an Insurance.com rep to help us through the process. We really applaud Insurance.com for keeping it simple and straightforward at all times!
Insurance.com Pricing:
Pricing varies based on quotes from various insurers.
Insurance.com Customer Support:
It's safe to say that Insurance.com’s customer service is one of the best that we’ve encountered. The chat option ensured that no questions were left unanswered and the fact that we could contact a specific insurance provider’s agent directly was also an added bonus. When we did participate in Insurance.com's chat session, we were in queue for less than two minutes and the rep we chatted with was very knowledgeable and helpful in addressing our insurance needs. Phone support was just as helpful. Email support, however, while just as competent, was not as prompt as phone and chat support were. It took about 2 days to get an answer to our email inquiry. All in all, we have to say that Insurance.com's customer service is pretty hard to beat.
Upside:
- Quotes from multiple agencies, excellent customer service, easy-to-navigate website.
Downside:
- A lot of personal information is required when requesting a quote.
