Next to used cars, insurance can be the next most frustrating thing to shop for. Agents go from good to bad to ugly and the lines between them are often blurred. Savvy consumers turn to the Internet for their supplement insurance quotes, but which websites can you trust? That's what we set out to uncover in our supplemental insurance reviews. Of course, Snoopy's Met Life had to be included in the bunch. Here's what we found out about this pea"nutty" insurance agency...
What's New with MetLife Supplemental Insurance?- Customized retirement planning services.
- Investments, IRAs, annuities, and mutual funds options.
- Life advice section regarding family, health, legal, safety, and financial guidelines.
Star Reviews' Favorite MetLife Feature: Our favorite feature on the Met Life website was definitely the Life Advice section. This handy resource feature includes tools for dealing with life transitions, family members, health, major purchases, business decisions, your personal safety and security, and more. We love that Met Life has an all-inclusive approach to insurance and seeks to provide customers with financial guidance for all stages of life.
The Met Life Experience: We found Met Life to be an attractive and inviting website. The use of Peanuts characters suggests an air of charm and playfulness, while the bright colors and easy-to-operate drop down menus help make navigating the website a simple and enjoyable process. While we did think the homepage was a bit crowded, once we entered the site and started digging deeper we found the abundance of information was arranged in a way that was easy to navigate.
If you want one-stop shopping for insurance and finance needs, Met Life is probably your best bet. The only downside to the website was that to get our insurance quote, we had to speak with a representative over the phone. There was no online quote form available. This resulted in follow-up phone calls and some light-pressure sales tactics.
Met Life Features:- Life advice on health, major purchases, life transitions, and more.
- Individual life, auto, home, disability, and boat insurance plans.
- Voluntary benefits such as accident, cancer, critical illness, disability, life, and hospital confinement indemnity.
- Detailed information about the company and all policies available.
- A number of printable service and claim forms for current policyholders.
- Retirement, investment, and banking guidance.
- Customer support resources including information on accounts, claims, and policies.
- Employer benefit options.
- Resources for brokers and consultants.

Met Life Pricing: Comparing pricing for standard supplemental insurance is hard because the plans and types of coverage vary from one company to the next. Instead, to get an idea of how competitive a company is in pricing, we decided to get rates based on a standard criteria of a $600,000, 20-year life insurance policy using the same information on each of the supplemental insurance websites we provided. This way we can see how the companies compare in price to one another using an "apples to apples" approach. This is the cost comparison breakdown:

Met Life Customer Service:
Surprisingly, we did not find any informative help pages or FAQ lists on the Met Life website. We did, however, find an e-mail form and a toll-free customer support number on the Contact Us page. The phone support numbers were listed by department and we felt this helped us reach a rep quicker and assisted in having our needs met sooner. Email support, unfortunately, wasn't as impressive. It took the company two days to get back to us from the time we sent in our inquiry.
Upside:
User-friendly website, life planning tools, large variety of plans.
Downside:
Difficult to obtain quotes.
