"V" TV Show Remake - This past weekend I was sick in bed with the stomach flu. This may sound dreadful, but there is a silver lining to this tragic tale. I was flipping through the channels and came across a “V” marathon on SyFy. For those of you out of the loop, “V” is a classic 1980’s miniseries about a group of alien visitors who come to Earth with what seem initially as good intentions. Unfortunately, these anthropomorphic beings from another planet are actually giant bipedal lizards bent on world domination. The visitors have most of the human race hornswaggled, except a group of freedom fighters led by “The Beastmaster” himself, Marc Singer. Read More

Netflix
Netflix is definitely at the top of their game. With nine different DVD Rental subscription plans to choose from, 100,000 titles in stock, no late fees and free delivery, it's no wonder more than 8 million customers have signed up for the service.
- New subscribers can take advantage of a 2 week free trial.
- Get instant movie rentals directly on your PC.
- Starting at $4.99 per month
We found the Netflix website very easy to use, the pricing very competitive and the selection of titles is great. While the customer service number proved to be a bit hard to find, once we got a hold of the company they were very pleasant to deal with and we experienced almost no hold time at all.
Netflix's pricing is right in line with the competition, and when you consider the selection is bigger and customer service seems to be better, Netflix may indeed be a company that gives you more for your money.
Overall, we'd have to say that not only did Netflix pave the way for the online DVD rental industry, but they still lead the pack today. Star Reviews gives Netflix the Top Rated spot with an overall rating of 6.0 Stars!

Blockbuster
During our review of Blockbuster's online rental service, we were reminded of why they took the movie rental industry by storm to begin with. The prices are competitive, they have a huge selection of over 90,000 titles and their customer service was great online and in store. We found the service to be innovative and refreshing, combining the online DVD rental world with the brick-and-mortar one.
- Eleven different subscription plans.
- Free 2-week trial typically.
- In Store Movie exchange
- No extra charge for Blu-Ray
Not only does Blockbuster allow you to rent movies online, but you can exchange those movies for in-store rentals. If you don't want to wait for the hottest new release to come through the mail, just take one of the movies you have and exchange it for the one in the store. It's definitely got that instant-gratification factor covered. If you like renting movies in the store and online, Blockbuster is probably going to be your DVD rental service of choice. We can't deny that Blockbuster deserves the Silver Star placement with 5.5 Stars!

GreenCine
If you're an indie film lover, a fan of the classics or someone who needs to sit down with a good foreign flick every now and then, GreenCine is the DVD Rental service for you. They're not as big as the mainstream DVD rental services, but they have a great selection of niche titles to choose from. They have over 50,000 titles in stock, so while they're not as big as the top two contenders, they do beat out a lot of the smaller competitors.
- GreenCine Guru Movie Reviews
- Member's Discussion Forums
- Video On Demand
The main drawback to GreenCine is the fact that the company doesn't offer a free trial and there is no phone support available. Some customers have also complained about long wait times for certain titles to become available. That's a bit concerning since their pricing doesn't exactly undercut the big names in online DVD rental. All in all, however, we have to say that GreenCine does very well in serving a niche of the online DVD rental market. If you want to go with the little guy, this is the one you want to back. With that said, GreenCine is awarded 4.5 Stars!

DVD Avenue
We'd really have liked it if DVD Avenue would have been the underdog that we could stand behind. Unfortunately, our experience with the company was a bit of a disappointment. First, there's no free trial. Every other DVD rental service on the block offers a free trial. One might assume the lack of a free trial is due to a lack of quality service.
- Over 25,000 Titles
- No Due Dates or Late Fees
- Free Delivery and Return Shipping
Our email request to DVD Avenue's customer service department went unanswered and we were unable to locate a phone number. Considering the pricing isn’t as competitive as we would like to see, we'd have to say stick with one of the bigger online DVD rental services. With the pricing as it is and the selection paling in comparison with the bigger players we give DVD Avenue an Overall Rating of 3.5.
